| | MARCH 20269The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has entered into a formal agreement with the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) to work together on research, standardization, and innovation in the field of telecommunications.IIT Kharagpur stated that the objective of the agreement is to synchronize academic research efforts with the strategic goals of the nation in the fields of telecommunications and information and communi-cation technology (ICT).The Memorandum of Understanding was recent-ly executed by Kamal Kr Agarwal, Deputy Director General (Finance & Administration) at TEC, and Deb-deep Mukhopadhyay, Associate Dean (Research & De-velopment) at IIT Kharagpur, in the presence of Prof Suman Chakraborty, Director at IIT Kharagpur, and additional high-ranking officials. The two organizations have entered into a partner-ship to collaborate on the advancement of standards, performing research, and making contributions to the advancement of next-generation telecommunications technologies such as 5G and upcoming network sys-tems.The Telecommunications Engineering Center (TEC) serves as the primary agency responsible for establishing and maintaining telecom standards in In-dia. TEC's primary function involves the development of technical specifications and testing protocols for telecommunications products and services.TEC serves as the representative of India at vari-ous international forums, including the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), particularly in the areas of standardization and radiocommunication. The two parties will collaborate on Passive Optical Network (PON) technologies, focusing on the stan-dardization of network design, enhancement of de-ployment methods, and assessment of performance. One other vital aspect to consider is the monitoring of electromagnetic fields (EMF) and implementing in-telligent Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. This will involve the creation of monitoring systems and sensor platforms utilizing artificial intelligence to enhance safety protocols and ensure adherence to regulations.Chakraborty mentioned that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) permits both establishments to investigate additional developing sectors in the tele-communications industry that align with the coun-try's strategic objectives. He stated that the collaboration is anticipated to enhance India's involvement in international tele-communications standardization endeavors, as well as advance research-driven innovation and autonomy in communication technologies.
