But times have changed. Globally, businesses are making peace with the catastrophic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of the organizations are currently crippled by their yesteryears of focus on cost reduction and streamlining procurement strategy; they are not able to react swiftly in these unprecedented times. It's anticipated that the next couple of years will be dominated by several waves of partial suppression and re-confinement. Surveys continuously reveal that most of the global leaders are preparing for a U-shaped recovery, considering a long gap between recession and growth. The road ahead is going to be extremely rough. From lack of access to credit to complete disruption of the supply chain models and need for new strategies, it's currently impossible to figure out the lasting effects. This unpredictability is particularly acute for procurement leaders. To drive their company away from this crisis, it's imperative that procurement leaders, at least on a temporary basis, re-shape their strategy to focus majorly on aspects like ensuring business continuity, smart, intelligent cost containment, and using smaller, smarter teams. In the process, they need to also make technology interventions wherever possible. When done right, this new, smarter way of working could open new avenues for procurement as an organizational function. This issue is about a bunch of procurement leaders who show us the way.Do let us know your thoughts.Sujith VasudevanManaging Editoreditor@ceoinsightsindia.comEditorialProcuring New Ways!
