| | JULY 20269Karnataka has become the second largest FDI destination in the country with FDI inflows up by almost double in FY2025­26 from US$6.6 billion to US$12.9 billion. The increase is indicative of the increased confidence of investors in the state's technology ecosys-tem, skilled workforce, digital infrastructure, and policy envi-ronment. The state government is taking initiatives like introduc-ing the first government-backed AI University, AI Centre of Excel-lence at IIIT Raichur, sustainable data centres to strengthen its AI growth strategy. The "Beyond Bengaluru" scheme to create technology hubs in smaller cities has also been encouraged by Karnataka for a more diverse and inclusive mix of domestic and international investors, and to support a longer-term economic development. In its efforts to expand its presence in the Indian semiconductor market, US-based deep-tech firm Mixx Technologies has acquired Bengaluru-based Sophic Silicon Technologies and entered into a partnership with Kaynes Semicon to develop India's semiconduc-tor capabilities. Sophic Silicon's analog mixed-signal design capabilities will be integrated into Mixx's AI infrastructure plat-form, and the collaboration with Kaynes Semicon will enable the development of more advanced optical IC packaging and test-ing. The initiatives are a major step towards establishing an AI silicon ecosystem in India that brings semiconductor design and manufacturing capabilities together. The partnership comes at a time when India is looking to strengthen its presence in the AI hardware supply chain. The Revamped Distri-bution Sector Scheme (RDSS) has received ap-proval from the AP government for a total of 521.58 crore in power infrastructure projects to power uninterrupted electricity supply during the Akhanda Go-davari Maha Pushkaralu 2027. It is expected to draw nearly one crore devotees per day for 12 days, which will put a strain of nearly 100 MW on the power grid in Godavari region. The approved projects are the new 33/11 kV substations, transmis-sion lines, transformer transpo-sition, cabling underground and SCADA in Rajahmundry and Visakhapatnam. The State Dis-tribution Reforms Committee also prolonged some of the key contracts of RDSS and smart meters till March 31, 2027, to complete pending works. The projects will enhance the reliability of power supply; minimize technical losses in the electricity distribution system and increase the robustness of the power distribution system for both pilgrimage and long-term consumers in Andhra Pradesh.
