The Central Consumer Pro-tection Authority (CCPA) has initiated suo motu ac-tion against 41 restaurants, includ-ing Chaayos and Barbeque Nation, for allegedly violating consumer rights by automatically levying service charges on customer bills without explicit consent. The action follows complaints received through the National Consumer Helpline, supported by invoices showing mandatory service charges. After investigation, the CCPA found the practice violated its guidelines on preventing unfair trade practices and protecting con-sumer interests regarding service charges in hotels and restaurants.
