| | OCTOBER 20214 India's transition to renewable energy was never going to be a walk in the park. Such is the complexity of the energy supply chain within our country. But the government of India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has manifested a great vision to catalyze the transformation into renewable energy. The government's 2030 vision to catapult the renewable energy target to 227 GW (including 114 GW of solar power and 67 GW of wind power) by 2022 and 450 GW by 2030 is a case in point. As of February 2021, India had an installed renewable energy capacity of 94.43 GW. India envisions having around 60 percent of its installed electricity generation capacity from clean sources by 2030. Nevertheless, it's quite evident that the public sector alone can't realize this vision, and India is fortunate to have a bunch of leaders and entrepreneurs who share the same vision. But in such a large economy like India, enough is never enough. We need more entrepreneurs to be on board this mission. The opportunities in front of them are humongous; the public sector projects alone contribute significantly. In the 21-22 Union Budget 2021-22, the government has allocated Rs. 15,322 crore for the Ministry of Power and Rs. 5,753 crore for the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Furthermore, the government has allocated Rs.300 crore to increase capacity of the Green Energy Corridor Project, along with Rs. 1,100 crore for wind and Rs.2,369.13 crore for solar power projects, among others.
