| | AUGUST 20264India's growth story is increasingly being shaped by technology, but technology by itself does not create lasting growth. Critical decisions made by business leaders such as where they invest, how they build talent, and the problems they choose to solve, matter just as much. This is where tech CEOs have an important role to play.Gone are the days when old cookie cutter outsourcing models would work. Today, the opportunity lies in looking beyond the traditional IT services model and building capabilities in areas such as AI, deep tech, cybersecurity, cloud computing and product innovation. Companies that invest consistently in research, skills and intellectual property are helping India move from being a large technology talent pool to becoming a stronger centre for global innovation.India's technology landscape is many such examples that define this shift. TCS, for instance, has continued to invest in AI capabilities and employee skilling at significant scale, helping Indian talent stay relevant as technology changes. Zoho's decision to build offices and talent ecosystems in smaller Indian towns is another interesting example. It shows that technology-led growth does not have to remain concentrated in Bengaluru, Hyderabad or other major cities. These companies have been successful market leaders owing to the vision of their CEOs. Tech CEOs are also responsible for making technology more accessible to India's wider business ecosystem, particularly MSMEs. Affordable digital tools, better cybersecurity and access to AI can help smaller businesses improve productivity and compete more effectively.Simultaneously, growth cannot come at the cost of trust. As AI becomes part of everyday business, issues such as data privacy, responsible AI and workforce reskilling will require greater attention.Ultimately, the role of India's tech CEOs is not simply to build bigger companies. It is to build capabilities, talent and businesses that strengthen India's position in the global economy.Read this month's special CEOInsights magazine edition which focuses on tech CEOs who are contributing to rewriting India's growth story.Let us know your thoughts.
