Bhagchandani KK is a business professional with over 28+ years of experience leading technology companies, in the creation and expansion of their enterprises in different geographies. CEO Insights interviewed Bhagchandani KK (Chief Business Officer) of Laurus Infosystems, wherein he enlightened us about his successful professional journey and his contribution towards the accomplishment of the company.

Tell us about your educational and professional background before Laurus Infosystems. How has your expertise helped in moulding the company’s operation?
From an educational standpoint, I completed my bachelor's degree in science, then after 9 years my MBA, and then after 9 years my postgraduate diploma in clinical trials management. In terms of my professional background, I spent the first decade of my career managing sales for pharmaceutical companies and now for 2 decades we’re selling into the pharma ceutical industry. These years have been all around technology, software, and other pharma-related solutions. Regarding the expertise, I worked with organizations for a long time and had a variety of responsibilities, spanning from sales to marketing, from creating international teams to developing them, from product management to global strategic management. These 30 years gave me the opportunity of learning about pharma and its operations from both sides, to create value in relationships. These experiences have helped me to establish these bridges between company and market.
As a CBO, what were the initial challenges that taught you the basic lessons and how did you manage to achieve the success that you had in the later phase?
I've learnt that there are 4 types of people in an organization. There are people who do the job (some very well), then some are managers, then some are leaders, and few executives! So, when it comes to performing a decent job, a lot depends on your mental powers, capabilities, education, or things you've learnt, and so on. When you become a manager, you try to get things done and organize things that will ensure that the stated objectives are achieved. When you become a leader; this all shifts away from your mental or educational abilities, because you now have to inspire people and give them a reason or a purpose to do some thing amazing. As an executive, you have to look beyond the obvious in every direction to pick what no-one can see and work on it or be a leader for that. So, when I first explored as Chief Business Officer, I found that the company had been around for quite some time and needed some new/fresh ideas and definitely a fresh market approach. We decided to shift to become pragmatic instead of theoretical and hence we switched to become customer-centric instead of being tech-centric. Today all our approach, communication and even website is reaching out to our customers.

professional success is when your team and colleagues; are delighted that what they're doing for their customers, is bringing mutual success and value!

How does your vast experience help you to chalk out business modules for the company?
When you work for a worldwide corporation, you have the advantage of travelling to different countries, learning about diverse cultures, and picking up wisdom from different people; I got that opportunity & experience for 18 years. When Laurus Infosystems wanted to go global and needed a global perspective to pursue their goals, they thought of me, and I joined them. I was able to bring in some of those elements with my experience, such as messaging, positioning, and pricing. For instance, the perception of pricing is different in different parts of the world. If you want to sell into US/ Europe, you can’t use what
you practice in China. All customers believe that because they are unique, they should be treated differently be it price or even discount. Some customers believe getting discount is very important, even though we all know that this does not always land customers in the best spot. You would have heard vendors saying this to companies, "If you want this pricing, we'll have to take this away,"and so on.Letting customer know about the relevance is more valuable than letting them know its importance.

In your professional journey so far, which are the milestones that have bestowed you with utmost satisfaction - both as an individual and as CBO?
First, I would like to express my internal contentment which comes from the fact that in the last two decades, my team and I have been able to persuade over 1000 corporations to invest with us that indicates that what we're doing is valuable. I am more delighted because I know that our company is not the only one which is doing the right thing, It's just that we were able to persuade people that it is worthwhile and that they should work with us. So, there's something called market acceptance; if you've been able to get professional companies to invest with you, it shows they see value in the way you're presenting the solution. There are a lot of other firms that are developing good solutions, but they chose to collaborate with us because we share a common objective I could trust them, and they were delighted to accept my imperfections rather than aiming for perfection. And this gives me a lot of happiness on the inside. As a Chief Business Officer, I'll share something that I learnt later in life: professional success is when your team and colleagues, are delighted that what they're doing for their customers is bringing mutual success and value.
