Ravi Jadhwani is the founder of this innovative all-in-one grocery shopping start-up that is already creating a buzz in the eCommerce world. In an exclusive interview with CEO INSIGHTS, he talks more about edobo, its mission and vision, and its unique business operations.

1.What was the idea behind the inception of edobo and what is it that inspired you on this entrepreneurial journey?
Entrepreneurship is in my blood. My family has owned and run a successful business in infrastructure for more than forty years. But my heart was always drawn to the tech space. The power of the internet and the accessibility of smartphones is a boon for businesses everywhere, and I felt passionate about taking advantage of the many opportunities of modern technology. I began my journey by setting up a small outbound call center called “Xzines Diligent”, but unfortunately, we had to shut operations after the 2008 recession. Then I joined my family business, but I still kept an eye on everything related to technology. In the last decade, the use of smartphones has skyrocketed and people are relying increasingly
on mobile friendly apps to meet their every need. It is the perfect medium for revolutionary service delivery. This inspired me to get into eCommerce, which resulted in the establishment of edobo.

The world is going through unprecedented challenges now. From what I observed in the e-commerce market, there was no single app that could fulfill all the needs of the end consumer with a focus on safety and on-time delivery. edobo’s mission is to provide a one-stop solution to all the daily needs of customers by offering an integrated portfolio of groceries, home essentials, pet care products, hygiene supplies as well as general medicines in a single mobile app.

Unlike other e-Commerce providers, we ensure that each of our products is UV-sanitized and kept up to 99.9 percent bacteria-free

2.edobo offers a user-friendly experience as you discover new products from the comfort of your home or office. Explain in brief about your range of products and other value-added services.
Presently, we offer a diverse range of 3,000+ products, all of which are competitively priced. So customers get the dual advantage of variety as well as lower prices in comparison to most supermarkets and local grocery stores. In detail, our product categories include: fresh fruits and vegetables, grocery staples, organic foods, eggs, meat and seafood, snacks and packaged foods, beverages, desserts and ice-cream, home cleaning products, personal care items, health and wellness products, and pet care essentials. We are planning to expand our portfolio to 17,000+ products across several categories very soon, and also aiming to get into the luxury goods sector.

Unlike other eCommerce providers, we ensure that each of our products is UV-sanitized and kept up to 99.9% bacteria free. This ensures extended shelf life for our products and high-quality safety standards for our customers, giving us an edge over competitors. We also offer multiple delivery slots in a day, each of which is 3 hours long. Customers can choose a slot that is most convenient to them. We have our own logistics team to ensure on-time delivery, and every staff member is given professional behavioral training to ensure the best customer experience. We are also coming up with a 45-minute doorstep delivery service, which will greatly enhance the ease of shopping.
3.Elucidate about the benefits of your grocery app and how do you ensure quality and timely delivery of your services provided via your app?
The edobo app is available on both Google Play store and Apple App store. Our app is designed to be low-MB and lite, so that people from all walks of life can avail our services even on the most basic smartphone device. We offer added security through OTP-based authentication during login, and support fast and secure payment solutions through UPI, net-banking, credit and debit cards, COD, and mobile wallets.

Every operational step – from product selection to quality and timely delivery – is managed in-house, which lets us keep control without depending on any unreliable third party. So we have a dedicated team that handpicks the freshest fruits and vegetables from suppliers to ensure top-grade quality. We also have a separate QC (Quality Check) team for branded products, and our own Customer Support team (call center) to handle customer communications and resolve issues. We oversee every step ourselves with utmost care and commitment.

4.What are the unique factors about your online grocery store that separate you from your competitors? Also, why did you choose Mumbai to be the breeding ground of your startup?
There are many factors that serve as our USPs. We are the only e-grocery app right now that provides UV-sanitized goods to the customer. We follow an inventory-led model for quicker delivery to meet customer's needs and expectations in the best possible way. We have full control on our operations with trained and professional staff in every team.

As to why I chose the city of Mumbai well, Mumbai is my home. I was born and brought-up here, in this so-called Manchester of India, so I have valuable insight about the psychology, buying behavior, and lifestyle of Mumbaikars. Also, Mumbai is the most cosmopolitan market in the country as people from all backgrounds, communities and income levels live here in harmony. So, if the people of Mumbai embrace our services, we are bound to succeed in other cities in the country as well. Mumbai.
