Transportation has transcended its conventional role as a basic necessity and has now become an inseparable part of our modern lifestyle, seamlessly integrating into our daily routines, and transforming the way we navigate and connect with the world around us. In this ever-changing landscape, Leap Infraasys (LIPL) is a dynamic and forward-thinking firm that specializes in designing, engineering, and managing technology driven rail infrastructure projects. From cutting-edge railways to innovative metro rail systems, and from highspeed rail systems to state-of-the-art facilities LIPL is contributing its bit to shape the future of rail transportation infrastructure. We recently engaged with Anil Jangid, the Director of Leap Infraasys,in a one-on-one interaction where he unveiled some truly ground breaking and innovative insights that are currently taking place within the organization. Let’s hear from him.

Could you provide a concise overview of your professional background and experiences, as well as the driving force that fuels your daily endeavors?
I have a background in electrical engineering, graduating from MREC Jaipur (now NIT), in 1991. My professional journey started with Indian Railways in 1993, where I worked as an electrical officer (IRSEE) until 2007. During my time with Indian Railways I gained valuable experience working in the Operation & Maintenance of rolling stocks (electric loco shed and EMU car shed) in Western Railways and thereafter in Metro Rail projects in RITES. In 2001-02 I pursued an MBA from the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), Manila. In 2007, I joined SREI Infrastructure Finance, an NBFC, and worked till 2009. In 2009, I started my own venture, Leap Infraasys, which was incorporated in 2010. Our primary focus has been on providing highend engineering services for rail systems, including power supply, signaling, tunnel ventilation, system studies, system assurance, and more. Over the years, we have delivered around 150 assignments and earned recognition for our competence in the rail industry.
Railway systems are a niche area of expertise. We have realized the gap in the industry and to provide a completely make in India solution for such gaps, we keep going and leaping forward.

As some one with three decades of experience, can you share your path to success and your success mantra?
As someone who does not perceive themselves as hugely successful, I hold the belief that discipline, attention to detail, and a systematic approach are fundamental elements for achieving success in any industry. I place a high priority on establishing and maintaining a routine that includes regular engagement in activities such as yoga exercise and professional work. Additionally, I place great emphasis on the meticulous organization and management of data to ensure traceability and accessibility in the future. Furthermore, I recognize the importance of investing time in my team, allowing them to learn from mistakes, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. I understand that success is not solely an individual pursuit but also involves the collective efforts of a team. Therefore, I actively support the growth and development of my team members, encouraging them to learn from their mistakes and continually improve their skills and knowledge.

Digital layer adds value to the system a huge amount of work is going on globally in the rail industry & India is catching up with that trend with the right policy ecosystem

This method is a success for me, as young engineers are now capable of managing projects.

Can you provide insights into your leadership style, including the principles and methods you adhere to when leading your team?
During my early years in the Indian Railways, I learned valuable leadership skills as part of my job responsibilities, as the organization is large and requires managing a multitude of people. Additionally, pursuing an MBA and attending courses in AIM Manila provided me with a new perspective on the importance of processes, systems, and approaches in running a large organization. It helped me appreciate the significance of business processes that were already in place in Indian Railways, but that I didn't fully comprehend
before. The training I received in India, as well as exposure to practices in other parts of the world, further enriched my under standing of effective leadership approaches.

I strongly believe that psychologically it is a human tendency to work better and get appreciated. I assign responsibility to the team members and they put all their effort to get things done. The follow-up mechanism keeps them motivated. This management process has worked very efficiently for me in over the decade's journey.

What do you envision as your future destination or goal?
We are currently working on creating small businesses within our organization, led by competent professionals who can manage their own teams and verticals. Additionally, my personal focus is on the digital layer of railway assets, where there is immense potential for value creation through processes such as condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and AI/ML applications. We are actively exploring opportunities in the digital space and have already participated in initiatives such as the Indian Railways innovation policy. We are also looking into developing our own tools for simulation studies, such as traction simulation, in collaboration with domestic partners. This aligns with our vision of leveraging indigenous technologies and solutions to drive innovation and efficiency in our operations.

Drawing from your extensive industry experience, what guidance would you offer to aspiring leaders in the field?
While some may find the industry mundane, the reality is that success often comes from consistently persevering in the day-to-day tasks, even if they may seem repetitive. Aspiring leaders should recognize that we are currently in a favorable time in India, where the policy ecosystem is evolving to support innovation. Therefore, it is crucial to stay focused and committed to your routine, day after day year after year, without getting discouraged by the monotony. Consistency and sustainability are key mantras for achieving success, though they may sound common, they hold true in many cases.
