Sudarshan K S is a young and dynamic entrepreneur who is steering the firm towards reaching new heights and achieving great prospects. In an exclusive interview with CEO Insights, Sudarshan K. S., Director at Orion Sutures, walks us through his professional attributes and the distinct facets of the company.

Throw some light on your educational background and professional experience. What prompted you to venture into the medical device domain?
I pursued my MBA in 2015 from a reputed University in Bangalore. I come from a business class family and had an opportunity to join the family business which was operational in the textile and packaging industry since 1994. However, when I joined the company the business was not doing well in the market and was on the verge of collapse. So, we decided to

restructure the company and venture into the medical device domain as it was a booming market. Subsequently, I took the helm of the business and established Orion Sutures in 2015. We gradually scaled up our production facilities, including every aspect of quality or whatever was required at the time, including machines and sophisticated latest technology. And from a turnover of 50 lakhs in 2015, we could reach a turnover of around Rs.2 crores in 2017, and Rs.12 crores in the previous financial year.

How would you define Orion Sutures India as an organization and its market position?
Orion Sutures India is a leading manufacturer, exporter and supplier of surgical sutures such as absorbable sutures, non-absorbable sutures, micro Sutures, as well as hernia mesh and bone wax in India and across the globe. Orion Sutures India is well recognized globally for its highquality products, prompt delivery, and use of the best needles and cutting-edge technology.

Our products have always been a preferred choice since we have bulk manufacturing of about 100,000 dozen per month, which is continually growing due to demand from our regular clients. We provide our products in the proper packaging while also assuring that we offer competitive prices for both Hospital Supplies and Special Pricing for Tenders. Most of our business is operational on the international front, wherein 74 percent of our total turnover comes from export. We have a vast presence in more than 45 countries in Europe, Africa, and Asia.

What is the unique proposition that your organization offers to clients?

In addition to this, on time delivery is our top priority which is strictly adhered to within our organization. We are a professionally managed organization that operates in a systematic manner with separate verticals of our business for domestic and international tenders

Further certification is one of the most essential aspects of this industry and we are accredited with all the major international certifications including ISO 9001:2015 Certificate, EN ISO 13485:2016 Certificate, C E Certificate Sterile, Absorbable Surgical Suture & Sterile Bone wax, USFDA Certificate and WHO-GMP Certificate.

Besides, we also have a dedicated vertical for NGOs, where we take initiatives to give some free products to some of the NGOs.

What tools and technology are you lever-aging that aid you to stay ahead of the competition?
We are equipped with a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Bangalore which is fully equipped with the latest technology, tools, and machinery that ensures efficient business operations. We ensure to update our machinery every year and always strive to stay aligned with the latest trends and technology in the market. The technology framework that is embedded in our products and solutions portfolio has been creating a significant impact in the market that customers prefer it as a top preference among other competitors in this space.

Going forward, what are the changes in market behavior that you anticipate, and what are the opportunities that you fore see?
As aforementioned, the medical devices industry is a booming market and we aspire to continue growing with our standardized quality products, while also developing and introducing novel products and solutions in the market. Currently, we have around 600+ distributors in India and are present across 45 plus countries globally. And as we proceed ahead, we intend to expand into more countries laying our emphasis more on the European and African markets.
