Managing Director

Vishwa Samudra Engineering (VSEPL) is one of the strongest contenders for major infrastructure projects across the country. Despite being a comparatively young company in the infrastructure and construction space, they have done some phenomenal projects over the last six years and created a highly credible standing for themselves. One of their key propositions to clients is the exclusive rights for using the cement additive, StabilRoad in India. VSEPL has been constructing roads using StabilRoad over the years and the results have been remarkable. StabilRoad is a cement additive made of natural ingredients which is imported from Germany.

Mixing StabilRoad with cement enhances the properties of cement and soil, thereby making the pavement stronger, flexible, durable, and long lasting. By using StabilRoad and cement, the company saves huge amounts of aggregates, sometimes upto 90 percent. Hence, the eco-footprint is massive when you look at the aggregates that would have otherwise been brought in, had it been the conventional process. The pace of construction is much faster as well. Anil Yendluri holds the office of Managing Director at the company, and under his guidance, they have been able to make impressive strides and break new business frontiers consistently.

In an exclusive interview with CEO Insights, Anil talks more about his professional journey and the unique business operations of VSEPL.

You have a strong experience in leading large infrastructure conglomerates through out your professional career. Take us through your illustrious educational & professional journey. What drives you today?
My transition from being a police officer to a corporate happened in 2008, when I was part of the inception of the Krishnapatnam
Port.Handling infrastructure projects at the port to now handling large-scale projects at Vishwa Samudra Engineering, the journey has been challenging but wonderful.

Our strategies are quite foundational and simple client centric approach, focus on time & cost, focus on high quality materials, and ensure a high element of environmental sustainability

A Master's Degree in Science, followed by an MBA and a Law Degree. My current academic focus is in pursuing a PhD. Learning new things and overcoming challenges is what drives me every day. The new challenges we face in each of our projects across different areas and the opportunity to learn in each of these stages is a big reward for me. Also, the opportunity to work with different professionals and experts is what keeps me going. On a lighter note, I also look up to getting my golf sessions often early in the morning.

Enlighten us about your journey with Indian Police Service. What are the learnings that you take forward from such an exceptional experience?
One of the greatest experiences and chapters in my life was being a Police Officer. Overcoming everyday challenges of different magnitudes and volatility, with the common objective of serving the people and the nation, teaches you a lot.

Having worked across the length and breadth of Kerala over 20 years in various capacities taught me values of life and progressed my learning curve. I was also in the CBI for four years and was part of the Peacekeeping operations team in Bosnia for a year, with the United Nations. These were challenging, yet wonderful and memorable.

What unique strategies do you implement in the company’s operations that helps maintain its position in the market?
Our strategies are quite foundational and simple client centric approach, focus on time & cost, focus on high quality materials, and ensure a high element of environmental sustainability. The sustainability factor is huge given the current scenario globally, although we have been stressing on it in every project of ours over the years since day-1. By following these simple principles, we have delivered almost every project before projected delivery due date and with the highest quality.

What according to you is your success mantra that made you stand where you are today?
I wouldn’t say there is a mantra to success. But yes, working hard, putting in the effort, never giving up and the ability to adapt, along with the hunger to constantly learn, are the pillars that make me what I am. Being a highly self-motivated individual and the disciplined life as a Police Officer taught me most of these principles, which I value highly.

In the light of your strong experience, what advice would you give to the upcoming leaders in the industry?
The focus must always be on being client-centric, sticking to timelines & cost and most importantly never compromise on quality. This is something that goes a long way in building one’s brand. Also, a key ingredient is the team that you put together to execute projects. Building a trusted, strong team is crucial. And like I mentioned before, focusing on Environmental Sustainability in any project that one does is essential, as we have an obligation towards the planet as leaders in this industry.
