The Indian Navy received six strategically important domestically designed and manufactured goods from the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in accordance with the Naval Staff Qualitative Requirements (NSQR).

The Environmental Surveillance Vehicle (ESV), Vehicle Radiological Contamination Monitoring System (VRCMS), Underwater Gamma Radiation Monitoring System (UGRMS), Dirt Extractor and Cross Contamination Monitor (DECCOM), Organ Radioactivity Detection System (ORDS), and Gamma Radiation Aerial Surveillance System (GRASS) are the six domestically designed products.

A flight test of the indigenous Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air missile (BVRAAM) 'Astra' with an indigenous Radio Frequency (RF) Seeker from the Su-30 Mk-I platform off the coast of Odisha was successfully completed on June 11 by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO).

"DRDO handed over six strategic indigenously designed and developed products against NSQR to the Indian Navy, namely Gamma Radiation Aerial Surveillance System (GRASS), Environmental Surveillance Vehicle (ESV), Vehicle Radiological Contamination Monitoring System (VRCMS), Underwater Gamma Radiation Monitoring System (UGRMS), Dirt Extractor and Cross Contamination Monitor (DECCOM) and Organ Radioactivity Detection System (ORDS)," DRDO said in a post on X.

The Ministry of Defense claims that two launches were conducted against fast-moving unmanned aerial targets at various ranges, target characteristics, and launch platform conditions during the testing. The targets were precisely destroyed by the missiles in both instances.

All subsystems, including the RF seeker, which was designed and produced domestically by DRDO, operated as expected throughout the tests. Through flight data recorded by Range Tracking devices installed by Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, the faultless operation of the Astra weapon system was confirmed. The accuracy and dependable operation of the Astra weapon system with indigenous seeker have been restored by these successful flight tests.

With a range of more than 100 kilometers, Astra BVRAAM is outfitted with a state-of-the-art navigation and guidance technology. The weapon system has been successfully realized thanks to the efforts of over 50 public and commercial enterprises, including Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, in addition to several DRDO laboratories.
