Dr. Prathap C. Reddy - Creator of Modern Healthcare System

img

A letter from his father prompted Dr. Prathap C. Reddy to come back to India in the early 1970s. He did his Fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, before heading several research programs at the Missouri State Chest Hospital, USA, where he worked when his father summoned him.

However, Dr. Prathap's vigor probably came from experiencing a personal tragedy in 1979 where a patient was unable to pay for a crucial treatment abroad due to a lack of suitable medical infrastructures in India. The plight was heard loud and clear by Dr.Prathap, who would then go on to establish a top-notch cardiac care facility in India.

Support from the Prime Minister

With backing from Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the Indian government, Dr. Prathap C. Reddy established Apollo Hospitals in Chennai in 1983 in response to the dire medical requirements. His sole objective was to create a healthcare system that should put India on the global competitive stage with other countries. Apollo Hospitals currently runs 291 primary care clinics, 71 hospitals, 5,000 pharmacies, a diagnostics network, and a digital health platform.

Powered Apollo into a Great Healthcare Provider

With a market valuation of more than Rs.70,000 crores, Apollo Hospitals has developed into a significant healthcare provider under the direction of Dr. Prathap C. Reddy. Today, the organization is run by his four daughters, Preetha, Suneeta, Shobana, and Sangita, as well as nine of his grandchildren, who are actively involved in demonstrating his dedication and facilitating seamless leadership succession.

Apollo Remains as a Leading Healthcare Provider in Asia

Apollo is currently the leading comprehensive healthcare provider in Asia. It runs diagnostic centers, pharmacies, hospitals, and more. Additionally, it provides global health insurance, telemedicine services, and funding for medical research and education.

He Brought About Many Advanced Equipment

The foundation of Apollo's success is its cutting-edge technology, reasonably priced services, and excellent care. It was one of the first to integrate technology into healthcare and employ cutting-edge medical equipment. More than 150 million people around the world have come to trust it because of its patient-first philosophy, which is based on tender loving care (TLC).

Apollo offers medical services in a number of specialties, such as pediatrics, ophthalmology, dermatology, gynecology, and more. They provide cutting-edge care in specialties like neurosurgery, nephrology, urology, and endocrinology.

A Believer in Virtues

Dr. Prathap is a strong believer in the virtues of patience, perseverance, and faith. Apollo Hospitals' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs are a strong reflection of these ideals. One excellent example of this concept is Total Health. The Apollo Foundation reaches out to people in both urban and rural areas with this campaign. It addresses a variety of needs, such as skill development, education, nutrition, and both preventive and curative health.

Another important component of Apollo's CSR initiatives is Billion Hearts Beating. Its three main initiatives—Aushad, Prashikshan, and Suraksha—offer courses on life-saving skills, give medical aid to the elderly, and supply necessary equipment for healthcare professionals.

Every child should have access to high-quality healthcare, according to SACHi (Saving A kid's Health Initiative). Through this program, Apollo's experts donate their knowledge to help children in need receive free, life-saving cardiac care.

Continues to Enable Access to High-Quality Healthcare

The success of Dr. Prathap never changed his down-to-earth demeanor. His focus on the idea that "success should make us humble and inspire us to do more for the country" reflects his dedication to enhancing Indian healthcare and ensuring that millions of people have access to first-rate medical treatment.

The legacy of Dr. Prathap is a great portrayal of foresight, commitment, and humility. His continued efforts with Apollo Hospitals serve as a reminder that age is not a barrier to success and encourage others to aim high.
