  • While drafting this piece of writing, we got the news that the Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad announced the launch of PM WANI (PM Wi-Fi Access Network Interfaces). It aims to provide public Wi-Fi service across India. The government, led by the Honorable Prime Minister of India, ShriNarendraModi, approved the installation of the public Wi-Fi network. It outlines the involvement of multiple players like Public Data Office (PDO), Public Data Office Aggregators, and application providers. Introduced to deliver a boost to business performance, and employment opportunities, the PM WANI launch will further enhance the disposable incomes for SMEs (SmallMedium Enterprises). Doing so, will prolifically improve and increase the country’s GDP. Moreover, the Centre Registry will be maintaining the details of App Providers, PDOAs, and PDOs. At the start, the Central Registry will be directed by C-DoT, or Centre of Development for Telematics, which is a government-owned telecommunications technology development center.

The rising digital transformation will be continuing the drive of IP traffic in India, which is projected to increase to 829 million users (~59 percent of the Indian population!), by 2021. Additionally, there will be 2.0 billion networked devices in 2021, which is an increase from 1.4 billion in 2016. The total IP traffic is also predicted to boost by a fast-breathing rate, 4 times from 2016 to 2021. It will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 30 percent! In recent times, according to the India Telecoms Report, the mobile subscriptions and fixed broadband subscribers will continue to stretch the telecom’s sector growth between 2019 and 2025. In the previous six years, 600 million people were introduced to the internet facility, and an equivalent number of people is expected to get an internet facility in the next years till 2025.
