Top 10 Business Leaders in Punjab – 2021
The state economy of Punjab, one of the northern most states in India, is 16th largest in the country with Rs. 5.29 lakh crore GDP. The state is well known for its rich and productive agricultural land attributed to the confluence of five rivers, due to which the state is called Breadbasket of India. The state is source for country's 95 percent of woolen knitwear production, 85 percent of India’s sewing machine production, and 75 percent of India’s sports goods production. The state also has one of the best road, rail and air transport network, connectivity, bridges and infrastructure facilities in the country. The cumulative FDI flow of Punjab between the period of October 2019 and March 2021 was $741.23 million.
The state provides investment opportunities in sectors such as textiles, agro-based industries, IT & ITeS, automotive & auto components, sports goods, and light engineering goods. Mohali has been developed as an IT and ITeS hub in the state. The state has crafted many attractive policies aimed at promoting Punjab as an attractive destination for the industry. Ludhiana is known as the Manchester of India. The new investor friendly ecosystem of the state facilitated 2,661 investment proposals worth Rs. 86,819 crore, with an employment potential of 3,23,260. A strong base of close to 1.6 lakh MSME units is reflecting the enterprising spirit of the state. The state has set-up MSME Punjab as part of the Punjab Industrial and Business Development Authority to focus on the development of MSMEs.
