Puneet Gupta, the COO of Redcliffe Labs, is a pharmacy graduate and has done many management courses & certifications from premier institutes like IIM-L. Having more than fourteen years of experience in the healthcare industry, he initially started working in the marketing domain for pharmaceutical companies. Having worked as a product manager in Zydus Cadila where he was in charge of the end-to-end marketing for their key products, he later joined SRL Diagnostics. It was dedication towards enhancing his career and his vision to uplift the healthcare industry that encouraged him to join Redcliffe Labs in 2021. His in-depth knowledge and understanding of healthcare marketing with conclusive analysis of prescriber and consumer behavior made him identify the potential market both for routine and specialized diagnostics. Diagnostics are the mainstay of the detection, diagnosis and assessment of any disease. Over 70 percent of the medical decisions regarding disease treatment, management and prevention are based on diagnostics. They are a crucial tool in preventive healthcare as well. Getting the right diagnosis is a key aspect of healthcare - it provides an explanation of a patient's health problem and informs subsequent healthcare decisions. The diagnostic process is a complex, collaborative activity that involves clinical reasoning and information gathering to determine a patient's health problem. The information required for diagnosis is typically collected from a history and physical examination of the person seeking medical care.
Diagnosis is often challenging, because many signs and symptoms are non-specific. Diagnosis is a major component of the procedure of a doctor's visit. From the point of view of statistics, the diagnostic procedure involves classification tests. Therefore, the use of diagnostic tests is a crucial aspect of clinical practice since they assist clinicians in establishing whether a patient has or does not have a particular condition. In order for any clinical test to be used most appropriately, it is essential that several parameters be established regarding the test and that these are made known to clinicians to inform their clinical decision-making. These include the test’s sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, and likelihood ratios. Since the fundamental purpose of any diagnostic test is to help determine whether a patient has or does not have a particular condition, clinicians should be aware of certain parameters regarding the tests they use if these tests are to be applied most appropriately and effectively in practice.
In India, the diagnostic industry stands at a whopping Rs.675 billion and is estimated to grow at a rapid annual rate of <10 percent over the next five years, egged on by increasing wellness and healthcare awareness, rapid rise in lifestyle diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases due to sedentary lifestyle, preventive healthcare testing, insurance services, and the overall rise in the spending power of people among all strata of society.
