Chief Administrative Officer

Successful healthcare leaders seamlessly combine strategic vision, operational excellence, and genuine empathy — a rare balance that defines the essence of modern healthcare leadership. As Dr. Hrishiraj Panwar, Chief Administrative Officer of Kasturba Hospital, Valsad, aptly believes, “You have to do the best to achieve the best results”.

An advocate of this balanced approach rooted in world-class quality, Dr. Hrishiraj embodies the transformative leadership required to redefine healthcare delivery. With over 15 years of experience in developing institutions, driving organizational change, and transforming outcomes through patient-centered systems, he is recognized for his hands-on management style, motivational leadership, and ability to turn challenges into opportunities that enhance healthcare excellence.

With a strong foundation in hospital administration, Dr. Hrishiraj has been associated with renowned healthcare organizations, including the Bhandari Group of Hospitals (Indore, MP), Wockhardt Hospitals Limited (Mumbai), and Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital (Mumbai). Since joining Kasturba Hospital — a legacy institution established in 1944 — he has led the expansion of clinical services, the integration of cutting-edge technologies, and the implementation of operational reforms, significantly strengthening the hospital’s reputation as a leading healthcare provider in South Gujarat.

His focused approach to delivering modern healthcare services, coupled with his adherence to the organization’s core values and its mission to offer accessible, affordable, high-quality, and patientcentric care to the community, continues to guide his leadership. Through his efforts, Kasturba Hospital has elevated its standards of care and reaffirmed its commitment to serving the community with compassion, integrity, and innovation.

What measures and metrics does the hospital use to track and improve patient satisfaction?

At Kasturba Hospital, patient feedback is a cornerstone of quality improvement. We actively collect feedback through structured forms, direct
communication, and an open-door policy that allows patients and families to approach management freely.

We treat feedback as “feed-forward” — a means to identify areas for enhancement and shape future strategies. Each input is analyzed and converted into actionable steps to improve processes, staff performance, and service quality. This data-driven yet empathetic approach ensures that patient voices directly influence care delivery, continuously improving both experience and outcomes.

Leadership begins with being a team player — discipline, empathy, and open communication inspire collaboration, align teams, and drive shared success

How do you collaborate with industry leaders?

I have been fortunate to receive mentorship and guidance from several industry stalwarts. These experiences, gained through various leadership positions, have deepened my under- standing of operational excellence and compassionate care.

I believe strongly in mentorship, peer learning, and professional collaboration. Leveraging collective expertise through healthcare networks, professional forums, and digital platforms such as LinkedIn enhances innovation and best practice sharing. For me, collaboration is not just networking — it is cultivating a culture of shared growth and continuous improvement that ultimately benefits patient care.

How do you view technology’s role in enhancing innovation in healthcare delivery?

Over the past four and a half years as Unit Head at Kasturba Hospital, my priority has been integrating future-ready technologies to elevate patient care. Technology has been central to driving precision, efficiency, and improved outcomes.

Key advancements include a state-of-the-art ICU and a next -generation Cath Lab with IVUS and FFR, a Modular OT complex with advanced anesthesia and monitoring systems, and high-end diagnostics such as a 128-slice Cardiac CT and 1.5T digital MRI. Our enhanced Minimal Access Surgery program and modern Endoscopy Suite further enable comprehensive, high-quality, and affordable care under one roof.

What are your future plans?

Our vision is to achieve full NABH accreditation as first time in Valsad City and establish Kasturba Hospital Valsad as a fully occupied, super-specialty
quaternary care center for Valsad and South Gujarat. Upcoming initiatives include South Gujarat’s first 5G-enabled ACLS Ambulance, a Renal Transplant Program, a Well-Women & IVF Centre, Robotic Surgery, and a Level III NICU.

Our dream project is the development of a separate, dedicated Cancer Hospital wing —equipped with nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, advanced medical and surgical oncology, and comprehensive rehabilitation support — bringing holistic cancer care closer to our community.

Powered by the unwavering support of our trustees, donors, and CSR partners, we remain committed to building future-ready, high-quality, and accessible healthcare for all.

What would be your advice to budding industry leaders?

Leadership, to me, is inherently collaborative. Before leading a team, one must first be a good team player. In healthcare — where collaboration directly impacts lives — qualities such as empathy, discipline, and transparent communication are vital.

A true leader inspires trust through example, not authority. Collaboration and open dialogue strengthen alignment, motivation, and purpose. As I often say, “Collaborative leadership leads to the highest standards of outcomes and results — achieved in the most ethical manner.”

For emerging leaders, my advice is simple: lead with empathy, keep learning, and stay grounded in purpose. Success follows when leadership is guided by service, humility, and the will to make a meaningful difference.
