Dr. Praseedha Sreekumar, PrincipalBeing an educator entails more than just delivering information. They have several responsibilities and play a variety of roles in their schools including events, committees, and anything else that allows them to foster a sense of belonging in classrooms and schools. However, being a lifelong learner is just as vital as being an educator. Never before has it been more essential for educators to be in continual pursuit of knowledge and to regularly participate in diverse and, sometimes, difficult learning opportunities. The Principal of Indus Altum International School, Belagavi Dr. Praseedha Sreekumar, shares this view and thinks that being lifelong learners may help us prepare for whatever the future of education and career may hold.

Every one has something to teach, and Dr. Praseedha believes that every interaction is a learning experience, therefore there's learning in every moment of life. Below is an excerpt of Dr. Praseedha’s exclusive interaction with CEO Insights.

What inspired you to venture into the education segment and what drives you today?
As a lifelong learner, education has been my greatest purpose since it allows me to help shape the minds of coming generations and assist them to prepare for an increasingly uncertain and fast-paced future. Students at this point in their lives are being prepared for the future, not only for tests or university admissions, they are being taught to be ready for the challenges they will face in their lives. As a result, this is the key reason why I've decided to embrace the education field. In addition, it is a highly scholastic area that emphasizes learning and critical thinking. In addition, unlearning and relearning is the name of the game when it comes to staying abreast of the latest developments in one’s field of study. Yet another attribute that drew my interest is, that it provides an opportunity for lifelong learning and crucible experiences.

Moreover, what motivates me now is the process of continual learning, unlearning, and relearning that I
have endured. And I feel that I might have a profound impact on the lives of many children, their parents, and other educators. Hence forth, I feel strongly associated with this and want to continue on this journey forever.

Being a lifelong learner, education has been my life's purpose since it allows me to shape young minds, getting them prepared for an unforeseen future

How would you define Indus Altum International School as an institution and its position in the market? What is the unique proposition that your organization offers to students?
Indus is one of the well-known names in the education field, which has schools in Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Pune. 20 years ago, Indus started its journey in Bangalore, and currently, it has been ranked number one in the nation for the last ten years in a row. There has been an incredible rise in Indus' brand development efforts, not only from a business viewpoint but also from a standpoint of the positive influence that Indus Group of Institutions has on the lives of so many children. For the last ten years, the education community has consistently named Indus International Schools in Pune and Hyderabad among the country's top 10 international schools. Indus Altum International School is the newest member of the Indus International School network.Indus group of institutions continuously evolve and innovate to keep up the pace of the VUCA world under the strong leadership of the visionary Lt. Gen Arjun Ray, PVSM, VSM(Retd).

Indus Altum International School, as well as the other Indus schools, are particularly prepared to help students become leaders and global citizens in today's world. Additionally, it aims to cultivate students' 21st-century skills, enabling them to think globally while acting locally. competencies we need to teach our students abilities such as critical thinking, creative thinking, cooperation, and communication, as well as the most recent collaboration to the list, i.e., design thinking, which entails appealing solutions to significant situations. Students will need to learn all of these.Indus group of institutions stand unique when it comes to creating a curriculum that is both original and distinctive- the Innovation Curriculum.

What are the major challenges you have encountered in your journey
so far? What is your success mantra?
There are many challenges to overcome, but I see them as opportunities. For me, this is one of my success mantras, I view difficulties as challenges. As an educator, you have the chance to learn from every moment you have with students or parents, or members of staff. From the outset, I make the most of any chance that comes my way. And every minute is also a humbling experience, and it keeps everyone in the education sector firmly rooted in reality.

For me, as an administrator one of the most challenging tasks is to help parents see the future. In India, gaining good grades, getting into a prestigious institution, and landing at a high-paying job are the primary goals for both parents and students. All of our parents' traditional priorities have shifted with the arrival of a new generation, which brings with it a fresh perspective. However, a complete revolutionary change is yet to happen. Academic Excellence, placement, and career are incidental, and the primary goal is to prepare students for the challenges they will have to face along the way. This is the essence of education at Indus Altum International School, and we want our parents to believe in this too.

In the light of your strong experience in the education industry, what advice would you give to the budding entrepreneurs in this domain?
Continuing to learn is the best way to avoid obsolescence, and I would want to encourage everyone to do just that. Be optimistic, and challenges should never be looked at as obstacles. However, they should always be considered as something which would present us with lot more opportunities.
