Continuing to grapple with disruption like changing customer demands, ever-smarter devices, an evolving digital supply chain, big-ticket mergers & acquisitions, and more, the Indian telecom industry underwent a high pace of market liberalization and growth since the 1990s and today it is the world's most competitive and one of the fastest growing telecom markets in the world. According to the latest research, the Indian telecom market saw a 36 percent value growth in offline retail in 2022, and 2023 is expected to be stable with value-driven growth for the domestic telecom market compared to 2022. While for telecom operators, the industry’s transformation brings a wave of challenges and big opportunities, it is the top C-suite leaders in the space who need to be acknowledged for their staunch leadership in leading the sector. Mahesh Choudhary, CEO of Mumbai-based Shaurrya Teleservices, is one amongst the multitude of such leaders contributing to this scaling growth.

Recently, CEO INSIGHTS interviewed Mahesh Choudhary to know more about his accomplishing life and professional journey and his stint in the Tele services sector.

Could you give a brief account of your professional background and experiences? What is the motivation that fuels your daily routines?
I started my 1st venture in 1999 at the age of 20 years in the Wireless Space. I have 24 years of experience in the Wireless Connectivity Industry from Manufacturing RF components and setting up the first factory in India for manufacturing RF cables. Taking up complete turnkey projects for executing Telecom Networks not only across India but also in 10 countries globally like, Nepal, Bangladesh, UAE, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania & others. Telecom Infrastructure Leasing including
Towers & In Building Coverage Solutions.

My motivation has always been to be a pioneer to lead Data growth Globally from India. With the world’s population of 6 billion people expected to migrate to 60 billion connections, the key focus will be not only on human connectivity but equipment connectivity through the Internet of Things (IoT). We will play an important role in building the Infrastructure of Trust (IOT) for the Internet of Things (IOT).

The guideline I follow is well spelled by the late Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam, we Never Fail as Failure is nothing but a ‘First Attempt In Learning


You possess over twenty-four years of experience. How has been your path to success and what is your success mantra?
Success & failure for me are all subjective and should not be always measured in terms of financial performance.

My mantra has been to follow your beliefs, give your 100 percent & be patient with the external factors to assist you to achieve your ambition. Time will surely come, just don’t give up.

How would you define Shaurrya Teleservices as an organization and its current position in the market?
Shaurrya Teleservices has been aggressively rolling out modern passive infrastructure which is being shared by all Mobile operators in India including Reliance JIO, Airtel, Vodafone Idea & BSNL. We are building networks for 4G & 5G from urban to rural rollout. All our infrastructure is based on our philosophy of introducing global technologies which includes our partnership with Airwaive Inc, the 1st platform in the world focused on wireless technologies. This means a win-win for all & people’s participation in growth. Our partnership with TTG – Turkey has helped us create a world-class central control center that ensures efficiency as well as ensures reduction of carbon footprint. Shaurrya Teleservices Private Limited is a subsidiary of Ascent Growth Capital LLP which is committed to setting up networks FOR ALL which would further reduce the digital divide in India.

Through its subsidiary DeWiN
Solutions(Decentralized Wireless Networks Solutions), we are setting up Wifi solutions across India under the PMWANI initiative of the government of India, along with also working aggressively on building quality ISP networks.

Ascent Growth Capital has also invested in Simplifon, a company creating a platform for empowering Micro companies across India to be a part of Digital India, enabling them to increase their revenues.

Tell us about your leadership and governance approach. What are the guidelines you follow as a leader?
My personal belief is that good leaders are those who create value & wealth for everyone including teams, customers, suppliers & community. The guideline I follow is well spelled by the late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, we Never Fail as Failure is nothing but a ‘First Attempt In Learning’.

What is the future destination you are heading towards?
I am sure & am committed to creating a GREAT company that will be Global, Reliable, Energetic, Affordable, and Trustworthy.

In light of your strong experience within the industry, what advice would you give to budding industry leaders?
Every budding industry leader should be assured this decade is for India & from India. emphasize on IoT from IOT- Internet of Things from Infrastructure of Trust and AI from AI - Artificial Intelligence from Affordable Internet.
