Fascinated by the vintage textile brands such as Double Bull, Chirag Din, Raymond and intrigued to explore the limits of this dynamic fashion sector, Devadas Chernicherri quit his legal profession to lay the foundation of Expoknits International in 1990 at Tirupur, the knit capital of the world. Owing to his previous exposure to the knowledge and formalities of the textile export industry through his father's predominant business across the manufacturing and exports of textile made-ups and furnishings, Devadas started his entrepreneurial journey along with his wife Asha Devadas.

    The first fashion show being held just 20 years ago, fashion is a comparatively young industry in India. The world wide fashion market in India has given thrust to Indian fashion industry. Today, Indian fashion industry has grown leaps and bounds from pure ethnic bridal wears to designer wears for red carpet. The fashion weeks in Delhi and Mumbai are getting bigger every year. The industry is expected to reach $400 million in few years with a year-on-year growth of 10 percent. With growing disposable income and better lifestyles, the demand for stylish clothes with quality are increasing. Also, there is a growing love for brand names among youth. The demand for imported clothes from India is also spurring in foreign countries. India is a very big exporter of fabrics and accessories. India is the third largest producer of cotton, the second largest producer of silk and the fifth largest producer of man made fibres all over the world.

    With the e-Commerce gaining popularity, the passion for fashion has rose enormously along the length and breadth of the country. Unicommerce, e-Commerce focused SaaS (software as a service) platform, increased fashion trends for the period of FY2021 and FY2020 with a sample size of over 70 million orders. Tier-III cities and beyond reported the highest order volume growth of 192 percent, kids wear has been the biggest gainer with over 200 percent order volume growth. The fashion brands adopting D2C have led to higher growth, strengthening their relation with customer. Women wear holds majority of the share in the fashion market with 50 percent share in the FY21. This is 30 percent more volume growth compared to previous year.

Smart clothes provide biometric data such as pulse rate, temperature, muscle stretch, heart rhythm and physical movement, and are transmitted via Bluetooth to an app in real time.
