10 Best Leaders in Goa - 2021
Goa, the state located on the west coast of India, is traditionally known as a tourist paradise for its natural scenery, unique beaches, and cultural diversity. The state's economic growth is driven by the strong performance of its industrial sectors such as fishing, agriculture, tourism, and pharmaceuticals. In 2020-21, Goa's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) was Rs. 815.02 billion. The GSDP has shown an increase of 8.16 percent between 2015-16 and 2020-21. The state has a well developed social, physical & industrial infrastructure and virtual connectivity. The state has an established base for the pharmaceuticals industry and is an emerging destination for knowledge based industries such as biotechnology and IT. Between 2019 and 2021, the FDI flow in Goa was $ 80.77 million.
Goa gets revenue from all sources including fisheries, exports of iron, manufacturing industries, and tourism, and the state is highly dependent on foreign exchange. The IT industry is also growing in Goa. Besides the upcoming IT industry, there are various other small and medium scale industries that help in the overall growth of the state. Mining forms the backbone of the state's economy, and minerals like iron, bauxite and manganese are still exported to various parts of the country. The state is ranked 19 in terms of Ease of Doing Business. Goa today has over 8000 small scale industries employing over 60000 employees. The state has established 20 industrial estates recently.
