Chennai is one of the leading markets for Real Estate sector in India. The well connected metro city is the center for a number of IT and ITeS industries; hence, it is one of the main reason for the growth of Real Estate in the city. Dominant market players such as Indian Oil, Chennai Petroleum Corporation, Manali Petrochemicals, and IT & ITeS corporate houses have been large contributors to the Real Estate market in North Chennai. One of the major trends seen in Chennai which makes it different from other metros is the demand for bigger homes. The timespreoperty.com reports that developers have seen an increase in demand for bigger homes even though the houses in the city have always been bigger than other metros.
In Chennai Real Estate market people are usually looking for completed or nearly completed homes. Many industry insiders have noticed that not only the affordability, but also the luxury segment has seen persistent traction. The trend of home buyers is moving to open areas in the outskirts, which is more visible here compared to other metros. The sector in the city has also done well during the pandemic time.
According to a few reports, the city has least stuck projects among top seven cities. A report by Knight Frank, Chennai recorded a 93 percent year on year increase in residential demand in the first half of 2021 as sales jumped from 2,981 units in the first half of 2020 to 5,751 units sold in the first half of 2021. The affordable and mid segment continues to be a major demand driver in Chennai.
