Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform in India
Qualcomm has debuted its latest Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 mobile platform in India through an exclusive event. Poco will pioneer the introduction of a device fueled by this chipset in the Indian market. Built on a 4 nm process technology, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 boasts support for LPDDR5x memory, UFS 4.0 storage, a 144 Hz QHD+ display, up to a 200 MP camera, and Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 technology. This chipset was globally unveiled earlier this year and marked its initial presence with the launch of the Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro in China in March 2024.
Qualcomm describes the newly launched Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset as a 'premium' and 'personalized' mobile platform. Curated from the Snapdragon 8-series platforms, the new octa-core processor features a 64-bit 1+ 4 + 3 architecture. It includes 1x Prime Arm Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.0 GHz, 4x performance cores clocked at 2.8 GHz, and 3x efficiency cores clocked at 2.0 GHz. Based on a 4 nm production process, the new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 supports UFS 4.0 storage, LPDDR5x memory, and Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 technology.
It claims to offer a hyper-realistic mobile gaming experience enabled by Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, which include real-time hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing. The mobile platform supports Quad HD+ display resolution with a 144 Hz refresh rate or a 4K screen resolution at a 60 Hz refresh rate. In both configurations, the chipset supports a screen with HDR10, HDR10+, HDR vivid, and Dolby Vision.
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 additionally features support for the Snapdragon Sound Technology Suite, delivering lossless high-definition audio. This includes Qualcomm Aqstic Speaker Max Technology, Qualcomm aptX Lossless, and LE Audio with Auracast broadcast audio. Regarding connectivity, the mobile platform is equipped with an AI-accelerated Snapdragon X70 5G modem, Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 Mobile Connectivity System, and simultaneous multi-link support for high bands.
Regarding the camera functionalities of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, the mobile platform is equipped with the Qualcomm Spectra Triple Cognitive ISP along with compatibility with a 200 MP sensor. Moreover, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 showcases on-device generative AI capabilities, accommodating up to 10 billion parameters and facilitating multi-modal AI models across various applications. It also extends support to over 30 large language models (LLMs) and large vision models (LVMs). This chipset will drive AI-focused features directly on the device, such as image generation, image expansion, AI virtual assistant, and more.
