Vinay Ramprasad, Chief Technology Officer & Head of Product management, WAISL, 0

In today’s rapidly evolving digital economy, few technology leaders possess the rare ability to reshape not just products, but entire organizations and their operating DNA. Even fewer can do this across multiple industries while consistently developing and expanding multimillion dollar product portfolios and delivering largescale programs.

One such leader is Vinay Ramprasad, Chief Technology Officer & Head of Product management at WAISL. His leadership is marked by deep technical mastery, a fearless appetite for risk, and a builder’s mindset capable of scaling large technology teams while creating cultures of ownership and innovation. It is this rare combination of end-to-end engineering ownership, product vision, and business turnaround capability that defines Vinay’s strategic leadership.

Armed with over 24 years of hands-on experience, Vinay began working in software services firm that enabled him to experiment, innovate, and explore multiple technologies. His career history spans technical leadership, architecture, engineering management, global product management and program delivery, where he created high-performing teams and developed multimillion-dollar product portfolios currently earning more than $500Million in worldwide revenue.

Currently at WAISL, Vinay incorporates engineering, product and emerging tech to create future-ready digital ecosystems that mirror the company’s mission to transform businesses through next-gen technology. We are excited to share an exclusive conversation with Vinay, where he walks us through his career milestones and insights on effective leadership.

How do you prioritize technology initiatives and evaluate the effectiveness of the company’s services?

I have always followed a structured three step process to prioritize technology initiative or innovation idea. First, we start, by assessing the customer problem and the tangible value the solution can deliver, ensuring it addresses real business needs and justifies adoption. Next, we evaluate the maturity and feasibility of the technology, balancing innovation with reliability. Finally, we confirm alignment with the organization’s strategic priorities and roadmap before making investment decisions.

The effectiveness of each initiative is measured after customer-deployment through defined qualitative and quantitative KPIs such as efficiency gains, operational improvements, revenue & cost impact, and experience enhancement. These metrics validate measurable outcomes and guide scalability across customers.

What quality control measures do you employ to ensure the reliability of your intelligent solutions for redefining airport operations?

We embed quality into every stage of the product lifecycle. It begins with validating customer needs through ethnographic research, as-is/to-be analyses, prototypes, and proof-of-concepts to ensure we are solving the right problem. During development, we follow structured SDLC and agile practices, incorporating peer reviews, architecture reviews, and continuous testing to maintain high standards.

To strengthen reliability, we leverage automated QA frameworks, and test NFRs (performance, load, and failover) to validate resilience under real-world conditions. We also enforce data integrity checks, cybersecurity audits, and comply with privacy regulations. Additionally, we prioritize human factors and usability testing to ensure solutions integrate seamlessly into user’s work flows.
Above all, we view quality from the customer’s perspective—keeping solutions simple, secure, and aligned with real operational challenges to deliver measurable impact.

What guidelines or methodologies do you follow to lead your team?

I lead my teams based on the core principles of people first leadership, trust and customer value, while prioritizing attitude over aptitude. I foster a culture of innovation, ownership, integrity and calculated risk-taking. I ensure technology decisions are closely aligned with business strategy to deliver measurable impact.

I am passionate about building impactful products & teams. I am an engineer at heart, innovator & coach

How do you stay updated with the latest industry trends?

I was never a good academic-student, but I’ve always believed that real learning happens through doing. I stay updated with industry trends primarily through a mix of on-the-job learning and exploration. I actively take on new projects, technologies, and roles that challenge me, learning from both successes and failures. Structurally, I subscribe to relevant newsletters or blogs, dedicate time on alternate weekends to study emerging topics, and participate in team knowledge-sharing sessions & peer-group/ industry-panel discussions. Continuous curiosity, hands-on experience, and engaging with new challenges help me remain current and adaptable in a rapidly evolving industry.

What future roadmap have you envisioned for your self for the next five years?

In the next five years, I aim to focus on developing impactful tech solutions, probably in the areas of infra-tech or health-tech, that can improve lives and create meaningful impact. I am equally passionate about mentoring and coaching, helping individuals and teams grow by sharing my knowledge and experience. Beyond my current role, I aspire to contribute to building products and initiatives that make a meaningful difference in India, while creating opportunities to coach on a larger scale and guide the next generation of talent.

What piece of advice would you offer to emerging industry leaders?

My advice to emerging leaders and early-career professionals is to embrace continuous learning and reinvent themselves every two to three years to keep pace of change. There is no substitute for hard work; early career years should be dedicated to learning, building strong foundations, and developing the right attitude toward work. Additionally, take calculated risks; while failures may come early, they build the resilience and sharpen judgment needed for long term success. Continuous learning, hard work, and calculated risk-taking form the core guidance I share with future leaders.
