The fans of neither Tom Cruise nor Steven Spielberg would forget the stellar duo’s 2002 sci-fi blockbuster Minority Report. The movie’s setting is the year 2054. In one of the iconic scenes in the movie, a GAP store customer point scans Tom Cruise’s retinas and immediately starts talking to him “Welcome back to the Gap Mr. Yakamoto, how are those assorted tank tops working for you?” Even though Spielberg hit the bulls-eye with his prediction of the future of conversational AI, his timing was off by more than three decades since big data & conversational AI already help organizations connect with their customers on a personal level. Enterprise conversational AI platforms (CAIPs) today are taking the patient doctor relationship to the next level by fostering a data driven culture across the healthcare ecosystem.

"Revolutionary technologies have helped us create and take Enterprise solutions to the next level. My daily dose of motivation stems from creating value for society in our efforts to redefine conversational experiences"

While CAIPs help to gather patient data at scale and churn out actionable insights that enable healthcare professionals to provide patients with personalized care and support, and in turn, overwhelming experiences, they also equip patients with the tools and information at their fingertips to manage their own health. But make no mistake, patients would choose the warmth of the empathetic words of medical professionals over talking to computers all day long. MicroGrid, a technology company at the intersection of Digital Health and Conversational Intelligence, is making this unique phenomenon possible through MicroGrid Intelligent Connect (MIC), a full-suite CAIP that consistently converses with, educates, and guides patients across channels toward the right healthcare solution. MIC does what a human agent would do and allows users to self-serve using a natural and intuitive interface i.e. a human like, natural language conversation.

The lion’s share of credit goes to Ananth Raj, the company’s Co-Founder & Chief Product Officer. With more than 13 years of experience, Ananth is a technology wizard passionate about creating wonderful user experiences. Over the years, he has not just built such overwhelming experiences but has done it with immense business benefits. His signature reflects his core beliefs in a process-based approach, best engineering practices, quality, and owning a product end-to-end. We recently got in touch with this amazing personality, who walks us through his journey, the latest endeavors of MicroGrid, and much more through an exclusive interview.

In conversation with Ananth Raj, Chief Product Officer, MicroGrid.

Walk us through your professional journey. What is the motivation that fuels your daily routines?
I come from an Engineering background, with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science. One of my earliest experiences was working on building Utilities CIS/ CRM, Smart Meter Communications, and Electrical Grid Systems. My experience enabled me to develop products that have been implemented for large Utility Clientele in Central Asia and India for over 13 years. With this rich product development experience, I have pivoted to working in the healthcare domain, in the role of CPO at MicroGrid. The new transition has enabled me to create products on the Google Cloud Platform, focusing on building our CAIP MIC. These revolutionary technologies have helped us create and take Enterprise solutions to the next level. My daily dose of motivation stems from creating value for society in our efforts to redefine conversational experiences.

MIC, complemented with a front-end suite of open ecosystems, addresses an end-to-end digital health journey, from activation & awareness to post-treatment & analytics. It intends to revolutionize conversations as a whole through its omnipresent, intelligent, and ever-evolving CCAI capabilities

How would you define Microgrid Technologies as an organization and its current position in the market?
MicroGrid is a technology company at the intersection of Digital Health and Conversational Intelligence. We want to empower key stakeholders in the healthcare industry with innovative solutions (through a clear roadmap for MIC) powered by a comprehensive digital health front-end suite of products, especially the ones supporting the patients in their end-to-end journey.

We would like to look at ourselves as visionaries. We are here with the sole purpose of redefining conversational experiences, and this has kept us motivated for the last two years to build MicroGrid to become the world’s most preferred CAIP provider, and we inch closer every day towards this goal.

Tell us about your flagship offerings and what value additions customers can expect from your offerings.
MIC (MicroGrid Intelligent Connect) a truly omnichannel Conversational AI Platform (CAIP) is the star of our show, which is completely built on the Google Cloud Platform.

MicroGrid is a technology company at the intersection of Digital Health and Conversational Intelligence. We want to empower key stakeholders in the healthcare industry with innovative MIC, complemented with a front-end suite of Open Ecosystems, addresses an end-to-end Digital Health Journey, from Activation & Awareness to Post treatment & Analytics. It intends to revolutionize conversations as a whole through its omnipresent, intelligent, and ever-evolving CCAI capabilities.

With rapid deployment and scalability, combined with class
leading modularity and a thoroughly robust & secure ecosystem, MIC aims to address a user’s every conversational need, irrespective of the business domain.

Could you reflect on some of the toughest challenges you have encountered in your journey so far? How did you overcome them and what did you learn from them?
During some of our pilot CCAI implementations, we faced a lot of difficulties in overcoming ambient noise issues, and language & speech recognition barriers, to name a few. With phenomenal support from our Technology Partner and our in-house R&D team’s combined efforts, we have been able to overcome these challenges to build MIC to meet uncompromising customer expectations.

What we learned during these times to stay ahead of the curve and survive was learning how to handle client expectations, think out-of-the-box to solve challenges faster, and better Process Management.

Going forward, what are the changes in market behavior that you anticipate, and what are the opportunities that you foresee?
The world today is witnessing the evolution from contact centers to customer experience hubs, and as such, potential business is increasingly being fuelled by Conversational AI. Assistive Conversational AI will revolutionize customer experiences as a whole and MicroGrid is right at the intersection of this revolution.

In light of your strong technology experience within the industry, what advice would you give to budding technology leaders?
Choose the right team. The people you surround yourself with will make all the difference. The journey will be a rough roller-coaster, so just don’t let go until you reach the destination. And don’t forget to enjoy the ride while you’re at it.
