CEO & Managing Director

In India’s dynamic landscape of entrepre-neurship and techno- logy, a few academic institutions stand out as nurturing grounds for such visionary minds. Among them, the Manipal Institute of Technology holds a prominent position. A hub of creativity, discipline, and technical excellence, Manipal Institute of Technology has, over the years, produced not only outstanding engineers but also groundbreaking thinkers who have carried their knowledge far beyond the classroom. Its alumni have gone on to lead ventures that revolutionize industries, inspire future professionals, and redefine the relationship between systems, machines, and the world we live in. An exceptional alumnus from this prestigious institute is Anirudh Lal, the CEO and Managing Director of Lomash Slurrytech Pvt. Ltd.

Anirudh’s journey is a testament to the power of innovation, driven by a lifelong passion for machines and a career that seamlessly blends mechanical expertise with entrepreneurial vision. His professional path began with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, an intuitive choice for someone whose curiosity was always captivated by the inner workings of gears, circuits, and industrial design. After graduating, he joined his family’s garment export business, where his engineering insights first made an impact. He didn’t simply automate production processes, he customized and optimized machinery to meet specific needs, resulting in significant improvements in efficiency and growth.

However, Anirudh’s true passion lay in larger machinery and more complex environments. This passion led him to the road construction and maintenance sector, where he began importing advanced equipment from Germany and the U.S. and adapting it to Indian conditions. Through his visionary approach, Anirudh continues to challenge industry norms, constantly refining machinery to exceed expectations. In this interview, we explore his philosophy, his journey, and the motivation driving his ever-evolving business. Let’s dive in to know more.

What lasting values and key learnings did you take away from your experience at Manipal Institute of Techno- logy?

My years at Manipal Institute of Technology were profoundly formative. The institution offered more than just academic rigor, it provided a rich, hands-on
learning environment. Even with older lab equipment, the well-maintained machines taught me a lasting principle, ‘care for your tools and they will reward you with longevity’. Manipal nurtured my curiosity and innovation. Learning about machines became a passion, and that mindset continues to excite me even today.

Which skills, both academic and experiential, acquired during your time at Manipal, have proven most valuable in your current professional role?

At Manipal Institute of Technology, my academic experience was both intellectually stimulating and transformational. I was captivated by engineering drawing, where converting concepts into detailed visual representations felt like giving life to ideas. Automobile engineering provided a solid foundation in understanding machine functionality, evolution, and improvement. The AutoCAD lab sharpened my attention to detail and emphasized the significance of every component in a system. Outside the classroom, we were encouraged to experiment, innovate, and build, blending theory with handson practice. The skills and mindset developed at Manipal continue to guide me in tackling technical challenges today.

How would you characterize the availability and approachability of the faculty during your time at the institute?

One of the most memorable aspects of my time at Manipal Institute of Technology was the remarkable accessibility and warmth of the faculty. They were not just teachers but also mentors and guides. Their teaching style made even the most complex subjects feel simple and enjoyable. Learning never seemed burden some because they created an open and engaging classroom environ- ment. What stood out most was their approachability, even beyond college hours. Their genuine support and willingness to help made the learning experience both effective and enjoyable.

What is one memorable experience from your time at the institute that has stayed with you?

When I look back at my time at Manipal Institute of Technology, the first thing that comes to mind is how it completely transformed my outlook on life. My way of thinking, which was quite limited in school, expanded significantly at MIT. Being surrounded by brilliant minds from all corners of the country opened my eyes to diverse ideas, cultures, and opportunities. The campus holds a special place in my heart, especially the hostels, which I fondly consider the best. One unforgettable sight was the sea of RX100 bikes lined up outside our 9th block hostel. It was like a parade of youthful energy, with hundreds of bikes, and if someone borrowed your bike, finding it could turn into a fun
scavenger hunt. MIT wasn’t just about academics, it was about the friendships, experiences, and small moments that have stayed with me.

Can you share your approach to leader-ship? What principles or strategies do you adhere to as a leader?

I believe leaders are made, not born. Leadership is about responsibility, not authority. It starts with working hard, staying committed, and being empathetic. Building trust is essential, for the team to believe in the direction you're leading them in. As a leader, balancing toughness with compassion is crucial, clarity and objectivity, and need to be communicated without concision bias is key. Leadership is a shared journey. Rising with the team, listening, and growing together, I believe, creates a dedicated and formidable team.

What are your aspirations for the next phase of your professional journey? And what principles or philosophy guide your defi-nition of success?

My aspirations for the next phase of my professional journey revolve around continuous growth for the business and making it a global brand to reckon with. I endeavour to continue contributing meaning-fully to through machine innovations and make a sizeable impact in the industry. Success, to me, is not merely achieving goals but doing so with a sense of purpose and a commitment to ethical standards. I believe that true success is measured by the value we create and the positive influence we exert on others.
