Biswajit Nanda
Chief Operating Officer
The most influential voices at the top are those forged through decades of learning, experimentation, and an ability to translate knowledge into measurable impact on the ground. These leaders understand that excellence is not an event but a discipline cultivated over time, often far from the spotlight.
It is within this context that Biswajit Nanda, Chief Operating Officer at RMP Group, stands out as a defining force in the textile manufacturing landscape. With more than 34years of experience, his professional journey reflects the rare convergence of scientific rigor, quality stewardship, and operational leadership. What sets him apart is not merely longevity, but the depth and continuity of his engagement with the industry’s most critical challenges.
Beginning his career as a research scientist, he immersed himself in advanced studies on right first time dyeing and real-time monitoring of process variables, laying a strong foundation rooted in data, precision, and experimentation.
These early years were marked by intel-lectual curiosity and academic contri -bution, including multiple research publications in national journals and presentations at industry seminars.
A GATE qualifier, he consistently demon -strated a commitment to technical excellence and thought leadership, later extending his influence as a speaker and chief guest at national level platforms, including Sustainable Summit, SDC & NIFT events.
As his career progressed into the mill sector, theory met reality. Bridging buyer expectations with
plant level deliverables demanded not just expertise but balance, resilience, and continuous learning.
Each role, each challenge, and each transition became a milestone, shaping a leadership philosophy grounded in implementation and outcomes. Today, his journey reflects a cumulative mastery where research insights, quality discipline, and operational experience converge to drive sustainable, tangible improve- ments across woven fabric manufacturing.
How is the woven fabric industry worldwide adapting to the twin pressures of rapid fashion cycles and growing sustainability expectations?
I see the global woven fabric industry evolving swiftly and responsibly. Comfort now drives innovation, with fabric development closely aligned to end-use needs. Sustainability is no longer a choice but a responsibility. At RMP, it is embedded across operations, from machinery and processes to chemicals and energy use, with a strong focus on resource optimization and environmental stewardship.
What major trends are currently redefining the woven apparel segment, and how are evolving consumer expectations driving innovation in fabric development?
Comfort now defines modern apparel, as informed consumers expect garments tailored to specific functions, from trek wear to workwear. With advanced manufacturing capabilities and multiple design choices, fabric engineering has become highly precise. At RMP, R&D and production teams continually innovate to deliver purpose driven fabrics that meet and exceed evolving consumer expectations.
How would you define your leadership approach, and what core principles or practices guide you in leading teams and operations?

I practice situational leadership, adapting my approach to the demands of each scenario. In a dynamic textile industry, flexibility is essential. I believe in empowering teams through delegation, supported by close follow up, and view failures as valuable learning experiences that build stronger, more capable leaders.
How are sustainable fibers and environ mentally responsible dyeing practices being integrated into production, and what challenges do manufacturers encounter when balancing sustainability goals with cost efficiency?
At RMP, we develop fabrics using sustainable fibers such as organic cotton, linen, bamboo, plant-based materials, man made cellulosics, and recycled polyester. Our dyeing processes rely on ZDHC approved chemicals, optimized dosing, and even vegetable dyes. With ZLD systems, 70 percent water reuse, biomass fuel, and emission monitoring, sustainability is embedded in operations. Though cost intensive, we offset it through lean manufacturing, waste reduction, and improved efficiency.
How do you view your future journey, and what guidance would you offer to aspiring leaders based on your experience?
I do not believe in rigid career roadmaps. I prefer embracing challenges as they arise, as uncertainty and surprise keep me motivated. At this stage, my primary focus is on nurturing the next generation of leaders who will shape both the organi -zation and the industry.
To aspiring leaders, I would say take risks, step beyond comfort zones, and remain lifelong students. Continuous learning is essential to stay relevant in a rapidly changing world.
