Let's hear it from him!

Could you share a glimpse of your professional growth story and the motivation that keeps you going forward?

My professional journey has been a testament to continual growth, driven by an insatiable curiosity, steadfast discipline and an unwavering commitment to excellence. I graduated with a B.Com LLB (Hons.) from Gujarat National Law University, one of India’s most prestigious legal institutions.

During my final semester, I was selected by Reliance Industries Limited, which became the launchpad of my legal career. Over the next 5.5 years, I navigated a broad spectrum of legal challenges within a highly regulated and diverse business environment, which laid a solid foundation for my corporate legal acumen.

Eager to diversify my sectoral exposure, I transitioned to CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited (earlier known as Crompton Greaves Limited), followed by Max Healthcare, where I developed a nuanced understanding of the manufacturing and healthcare landscapes, respectively.

Today, I serve as an Associate Vice President & Head (Legal & Secretarial) at Healthkart, India’s leading consumer nutrition platform, where I oversee a dynamic portfolio spanning legal strategy, compliance, governance and risk management.

With over 12 years of rich and cross-sectoral experience, my motivation stems from a simple yet profound source: the opportunity to build legally sound, ethically driven and forward-thinking organizations.

Every challenge I encounter is not merely a problem to solve, but a chance to add strategic value and elevate the legal function as a core business enabler.
From a legal perspective, how do you guarantee that a product complies with safety regulations for dietary supplements?

In the dietary and health supplement space, regulatory compliance is not just a legal mandate, it is a cornerstone of consumer trust and public health. From a legal standpoint, ensuring product safety requires an integrative and lifecycle-based approach.

It involves a comprehensive and end-to-end compliance matrix beginning with a detailed understanding of applicable laws, including the FSSAI regulations, legal Metrology norms and the best industry practices.

At Healthkart, we embed legal scrutiny at every stage of product development, from product manufacturing to packaging, labeling, marketing and post-market surveillance. Our legal team works in close tandem with regulatory affairs, R&D, quality assurance and marketing teams to pre-empt compliance issues, and ensure complete traceability.

The legal profession today is not just a career - it is a calling. And those who serve it with purpose, resilience and vision will always find themselves at the vanguard of trans - formation

We also institutionalize robust compliance protocols, including audits, legal sign-offs, SOPs tailored to evolving regulatory expectations and cross functional trainings. Ultimately, our goal is to ensure that innovation and compliance are not at odds, but rather work hand in hand to deliver safe, effective and legally compliant products to consumers. In our industry space, legal vigilance isn’t just a statutory obligation, it’s a fiduciary and ethical commitment.

What function do you envision legal advisors having in helping a healthcare organization meet its overarching strategic goals?

In today’s complex and regulated landscape, legal advisors are no longer viewed merely as risk managers, they are strategic architects, actively shaping the trajectory of the organization. In the healthcare domain, where ethical sensitivities, regulatory scrutiny and public account ability converge, the role of legal becomes even more consequential.

Legal advisors ensure that business innovation is underpinned by compliance, that strategic transactions are structurally sound and that the organization is resilient in the face of regulatory or reputational risk.

From enabling digital health platforms and managing medico-legal risk to guiding ESG compliance and data privacy frameworks, legal advisors today serve as critical partners in achieving both operational efficiency and long-term strategic vision. Our mandate extends beyond compliance, we are custodians of trust, governance and integrity.

How do you align legal factors with the objectives of a healthcare organization?

Alignment is achieved when legal is not an afterthought but a co-pilot in strategic planning. In both Max Healthcare and now Healthkart, I have championed a proactive and participative legal culture. We engage early in the decision-making cycle, whether it's product launch, partnerships, technology adoption or geographic expansion, to ensure legal feasibility is aligned with business objectives.

I focus on translating regulatory constraints into actionable insights for business teams, building legal frameworks that are not only defensible but also commercially viable. The key lies in contextual understanding - knowing when to draw red lines and when to propose calibrated risk-based solutions.

By institutionalizing governance, offering legal clarity and fostering transparent risk dialogue, we ensure that legal compliance becomes a strategic
asset rather than a bottleneck.

Tell us about your leadership approach. What are the guidelines or methodologies you follow as a leader?

I define leadership as the ability to inspire clarity, empower individuals and consistently deliver results with unwavering integrity. My leadership philosophy is anchored in three foundational principles, namely strategic foresight, collaborative execution and accountable ownership.

I lead by fostering an environment where the legal team transcends the role of a mere watchdog, becoming true strategic partners in business decision-making. I champion first-principles thinking, encouraging my team to dissect challenges to their core, apply commercial logic and craft innovative solutions that uphold the highest standards of ethics and law.

Mentoring the next generation of legal professionals, promoting diverse perspectives and nurturing a culture of continuous learning are integral to my leadership approach.

In high-stakes or high-pressure situations, I rely on a balanced combination of composure, data-driven judgment and empathy, which are traits that I believe are crucial for sustainable and long-term leadership success.

What is the future destination you are heading towards?

I envision a future where I evolve into a transformative General Counsel, playing a key role at the intersection of legal strategy, corporate governance, and business leadership.

Currently, as Head of Legal and Secretarial, I lead a dynamic legal team and collaborate closely with the CFO and Founder, contributing meaningfully to strategic discussions and decision-making.

I believe the legal profession must move beyond a support role and become a driving force in shaping business outcomes, a shift that begins when legal leaders have a voice at the table.

Long term, I aspire to contribute at the board or policy level, building legal teams that are not only technically strong but also strategically aligned, globally minded, and ethically anchored.

Outside the corporate realm, I’m committed to mentoring young legal professionals, advancing legal literacy and strengthening institutional frameworks in India. My destination is not a title, but a platform to influence, enable, and uplift.

Based on your experience in the industry, what advice would you give to aspiring leaders in the field?

To future legal leaders, focus on mastering legal fundamentals while gaining a deep understanding of the business landscape. Embrace adaptability, stay curious, open to change, and willing to unlearn and relearn.

Go beyond simply addressing legal issues anticipate risks, shape strategy, and communicate effectively. Lead with humility and integrity, as these traits earn lasting trust and influence.

Prioritize building strong relationships and maintaining your reputation, these often open doors a résumé cannot.

The legal profession is more than a job, it's a calling. Those who approach it with purpose, resilience, and vision will drive meaningful change and lead with lasting impact.
