Across Karnataka’s evolving hospitality landscape, a refined transformation is quietly taking shape. A state celebrated for its architectural brilliance, spiritual depth, and culinary richness is now witnessing the emergence of hospitality destinations that seamlessly unite heritage with modern sensibilities.

As today’s travellers seek meaningful experiences - rooted in wellness, sustain ability, and cultural authenticity— visionary leaders are redefining what contemporary Indian luxury represents. Their focus extends beyond building properties; it lies in crafting environments that respect history, honour nature, and elevate regional identity onto a global platform.

Among these forward-thinking leaders is Nikhil Bhurat Jain, Executive Director of Vijayshree Resort, Hampi, whose approach reflects a rare balance of legacy, purpose, and experiential hospitality.

Nikhil leads one of India’s most distinctive experiential luxury resorts, Vijayshree Resort in Hampi. With an MBA from the SP Jain School of Global Management and professional experience at The Oberoi, Dubai, he oversees a resort that is entirely vegetarian, alcohol-free, and deeply rooted in cultural authenti -city.

His approach to leadership is shaped by a commitment to sustainable hospitality, the preservation of heritage, and a focused push toward the Holistic leisure experience. The resort itself has earned notable recognition, including mentions in the Limca Book of Records, acknowledgement from Guinness World Records, the award for Best Destination Wedding Resort in South India, and several accolades for excellence in MICE and hospitality.

Nikhil began his journey at Vijayshree Resort in 2017, dedicating three and a half years to understanding the nuances of operations and guest experience. He later pursued a global MBA across Sydney, Singapore, and Dubai, simultaneously gaining international exposure through his role in the marketing team at The Oberoi, Dubai.

Returning to India with a broadened worldview, he rejoined the family-owned property that has been a landmark in Hampi for nearly two decades. Conceptualized by his father, Raju Bhurat, the resort was envisioned to fill the gap in luxury accommodation in the UNESCO World Heritage region.

Spread across nearly 20 acres, the resort features 92 rooms and 5 suites, expansive landscaped gardens, a private helipad, a swimming pool, and a newly developed Palace Wing inspired by Vijayanagara - era architecture. For Nikhil, the journey is deeply personal - guided by legacy, yet driven by a desire to create immersive,
thoughtful and meaningful guest experi -ences.

How are you combining eco-conservation with elevated guest experiences and thoughtful service while simultaneously advancing environmental sustainability?

At Vijayshree Resort, sustainability is not an initiative - it is a way of operating. We are committed to functioning as a largely plastic-free property, ensuring that environmental responsibility informs every operational decision. Our advanced sewage treatment plant allows us to recycle the majority of our water for horticulture, enabling our gardens and landscapes to thrive sustainably.

Across guest rooms, we are steadily transitioning from conventional plastic amenities to bamboo based and fully recyclable alternatives, ensuring comfort without environmental compromise. We have also introduced EV charging stations to support eco-conscious travellers and work closely with local farmers to procure fresh responsibly sourced produce directly from the source.

Our kitchens follow a philosophy of purity and transparency - no artificial food colours, an emphasis on freshness, and deep respect for ingredients. Nearly twenty-twenty two varieties of vegetables are cultivated in our one-acre organic garden, supplemented by locally sourced rice, jaggery, and seasonal produce.

As a vegetarian and alcohol-free resort we take pride in demonstrating that conscious hospitality and refined luxury can coexist seamlessly. This sustained commitment to ethical practices has also earned us recognition from the Limca Book of Records.

What methods have you put in place to create fresh forward-looking models in luxury hospitality that remain deeply connected to timeless Indian principles?

Our hospitality philosophy draws deeply from Indian traditions and the principles of satvic living, where balance, wellbeing and authenticity are central. We curate experiences that allow guests to reconnect with tradition in a meaningful way - ranging from guided dairy farm visits for children to interactive organic farming experiences, and our signature Royal Indian Thali, presenting twenty-seven authentic dishes from across India.

We also played an early role in positioning Hampi as a destination wedding hub, well before the concept gained mainstream momentum. With Vijayanagara inspired architecture, serene natural surroundings, and six expansive indoor and outdoor venues, Vijayshree Resort offers a setting that feels regal yet deeply rooted in heritage. Today, we host 35 to 40 destination weddings annually, welcoming families from across India and overseas who seek celebrations that honour culture, tradition, and grandeur.

How would you define your leadership style, and what core guidelines or methods do you follow as a leader?

My leadership approach is rooted in guest-centric thinking,
trust, and empowerment. I believe hospitality cannot be forced or scripted; it must be genuine and heart felt. Our focus is on building the right team, nurturing talent, and enabling individuals to take ownership of their roles with confidence.

We operate with clear systems and strong operational frameworks, while encouraging department heads to make informed decisions independently. This balance ensures consistency in service while encouraging innovation and responsibility at every level. My goal is to ensure that each guest experiences warmth, care, and a sense of belonging and leaves with a sense of connection that goes beyond the stay itself.

How do you stay informed about evolving industry trends so you can guide your organization toward the future?

I travel extensively to experience hotels and resorts across the world that are known for thoughtful design and strong service philosophies. These journeys offer invaluable insights into evolving design sensibilities, service philosophies, and guest engagement models, which I thoughtfully adapt to our context.

I also remain actively involved with the hospitality industry through associations such as FHRAI participating in conventions, forums, and collaborative discussions. This ongoing engagement ensures that we evolve with changing expectations while remaining true to our core values and service standards.

What is the future destination you are working toward?

I am now focused on expanding the Vijayshree brand into the wellness and retreat space. We are in the process of developing a 40-acre forest-based wellness resort in Karnataka, designed to offer a deeply immersive healing experience. The project will feature approximately 50 rooms, a world-class wellness and treatment centre, and curated stay programmes ranging from three to fifteen nights.

Central to this vision is our plan to plant over 100,000 trees, creating a living ecosystem that allows guests to slow down, heal, and reconnect with themselves in harmony with nature. This project represents the beginning of a long-term journey to establish Vijayshree as a respected name in experiential resorts and wellness destinations across India.
