Niyas is a seasoned technology delivery leader, passionate about transforming teams towards better productivity and innovation in order to serve the global customers. He is also a certified Project Management Professional, a Scrum Master, and has accomplished global projects for around two decades now. Here are the excerpts of an exclusive interview of Niyas with CEO Insights in which he takes us on a detour of his life journey and career accomplishments.
Brief us on your educational and professional journey.
I am Bachelor of Engineering with specialization in Computer Science. Having completed my BE from Noorul Islam College of Engineering(NICE),Tamil Nadu I started my career as a Lecturer in Chennai. In 1999, I moved to Calcutta, joined RS Software as an Associate Software Engineer and transmuted to several reputed companies like HCL Infosystems, NTS Group, Wipro, UST Global, Probytes, and Cordova Education Solutions. In the meanwhile, continuing my job, I also pursued an Executive MBA degree (in 2012) from Indian School of Management & Studies. The large companies that I had worked for helped me transform from a shy developer to a technology leader. Furthermore, my passion towards software project management & delivery bestowed me with industry recognized certifications like PMP, RMP, Lean Six sigma, Scrum, and Balanced Scorecard. Currently, I am also pursuing MBA (Project Management)from Bharathiar
University, Tamil Nadu.
I joined CloudQ India as its CTO in Feb 2020. Getting recognized as a CTO by CloudQ after 20+ years of IT Software development and Delivery Consulting roles, I believe is one of the best moment in life as a technology leader. As an individual, the freedom being given by CloudQ to perform (transforming the company from a complete cost center to a profit center in one year time-frame and continuously optimizing resources to keep the company in growth) with my fullest potential provides me satisfaction and pushes me to perform better as a leader to take CloudQ to next level.
The CTO of a company is one of the most undefined positions among C-level management. What kind of roles you have been playing for CloudQ?
I agree. The CTO role is very vast and unspecific. It follows setting up the offshore Delivery Center based in Trivandrum Technopark & Kochi for Salesforce and Zoho. As a CTO, leading, directing and managing India operations, being accountable for Consulting practice in India, driving recruitment, HR & Finance and Delivery organizations Salesforce and ZOHO and QA practice actually summarizes my job. However, we also need to ensure that the policies & systems are in place for encouraging collaboration and improving productivity & quality of our associates to serve CloudQ customers with the best always.
Additionally, as partners and investors are looking for results and ROI, whenever I propose technology investment plans & strategies, I enlighten them with our shorter and long terms investment & returns, forecasting and conducting a thorough independent research on the proposals. I also ensure there is a systematic monitoring & tracking to ensure the progress is being made towards the targets set.

I have done end-to-end project management for ZOHO projects and in the process, have implemented Activtrack for the workforce management & its tracking. I have also performedcontinuous digital transformation initiatives within CloudQ (evaluating Softwares & Systems) to implement well documented processes and improve accountability, quality, productivity for promoting collaboration with our clients & partner ecosystem.
Further, we plan to research on the latest trend in technology almost on daily basis and adopt the best practices after careful analysis of cost vs. benefits to the company. We also have plans to invest in Cloud Security and keep an eye on innovative technology products.
Do you participate in any mentorship programs or give keynote speeches in conferences & seminars to share your industry insights with your peers?
My mentorship at CloudQ has contributed to the development of project management and leadership practice. The project managers and leadership practitioners say that they are now able to take prompt strategic, operational and delivery management decisions. Apart from regular work, my progress in attending seminars and workshops has increased in and around Trivandrum and I’m eager to give a keynote speech in the coming days.
