Speaking of an individual, Raghu Narayan has been an Micro Endodontist leader in India for the past 15 years. He is a UCLA graduate who founded the Academy of Advanced Endodontics in Bangalore to build a business he is passionate about. He has worked as a Chief Dental Specialist and Consultant Micro Endodontist in various dental hospitals, which has greatly enriched his thoughts and aspirations in the Dental field. “One should manage and guide their team toward achieving the organization's goals so that patients receive the best care possible” says Raghu Narayan, Founder and Director of the Academy of Advanced Endodontics, a private Academy that educates and enhances modern endodontic clinical skill among general dental practitioners and other specialists.
In an exclusive interview with CEO Insight magazine, Raghu Narayan walks us through his professional journey along with the unique traits of the organization.
Brief us about your educational and professional background. Also, explain your current role at the Academy of Advanced Endodontics.
Raghu Narayan is a professor and Micro Endodontist. He graduated from M.R. Ambedkar Dental College and Hospital and holds a Master's degree in Endodontist from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in Bangalore. He completed an Advanced Endodontics Training at the University of Florida (UF), Micro Endodontics at the University of Buffalo (UB), and Master clinician training at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the State University of New York (SUNY). He is the Academic Director of AAE Bangalore, India, the Director of the Dental Academy for Clinical
Excellence (DACE), Florida, USA, and the course director for Advanced Endodontic CE Program in Association with University of Buffalo.
What are the key aspects of your school the Academy of Advanced Endodontics?
The key aspects of AAE are quality leadership, the vision to prepare for the digital era, the ability to identify key components that attribute to success, its establishment of high expectations for success, the occurrence of a safe and orderly environment conducive to learning, the presence of a strong and well defined sense of purpose among the faculty, the involvement of a clear positive philosophy, the presence of a strong organizational framework, and as its reinforcement.
How, according to you, has the Indian educational sector evolved since the pandemic? What methods did you develop as the Academic Director to cope with the challenges the pandemic presented?
The pandemic's impact on schooling has been extraordinary. The unusual effect of lockdown and no interaction has a significant influence on traditional teaching and learning methods. On the plus side, the Indian educational system was obliged to adopt technology and all available resources to transform the manner of instruction from a need-based context. Because the courses at our Academy offer clinical training with a pre-clinical component. We needed to go beyond contact center training; thankfully, our training approach was always a combination of online and offline techniques, so the adaption and transfer to online wasn't too difficult. Our academy was the first in the country to obtain an automated mannequin to imitate the human patient component. This allowed us to deliver exceptionally concentrated instruction to all participants in the cutting-edge simulation lab.

We make certain changes to the course components or narrative to ensure that each participating doctor is adequately taught to obtain total clinical confidence and be up to date on the newest concepts and practices. We were the first to create an app called 'AAREN', which allows all of our alumni doctors to talk, debate, and share their expertise. What distinguishes us from other academies is that our participants are qualified to join the affiliated US university advanced dental programs, which are not normally available to Indian dental graduates.
Describe the most effective methods and technology you've introduced at the Academy of Advanced Endodontics to improve your students' learning experiences.
Our most effective training approach has evolved for a decade. We evaluate each participating doctor's learning style, whether visual, auditory, or kinesthetic, and educate them to maintain their natural learning style, which is quite special and particularly customized at our facility. 'AAREN' is a personal dental coach smartphone app that helps each course participant communicate with teachers and access online information. The high-definition studio is set up to record all demonstrated procedures and provide access to learning in a self-phased manner that is on par with global standards, and post-course mentorship is to handhold every participant until they achieve the necessary clinical acumen and confidence.
Going forward, what are the goals that you wish to invest in and how do you plan to take them further?
We aspire to be the world's most sophisticated center for skill enhancement dental training. We are collaborating with several US and European colleges to create collaborative programs that will allow our Indian dental practitioners to improve their abilities to meet global standards. The institution is also planning to offer online tutoring for dental graduates by worldwide norms. The focus for the next few years will be on establishing many centers around the country to cover a vast geographical region and deliver highquality post doctoral training.
