Especially, the pharma -ceutical supply chain has transformed and has become more dynamic with the changing environment, lifestyle and type of delivery systems. It’s no longer just about moving products from A to B, it’s about delivering the right product, right time, right quality and right cost.

To take forward this transformative shift, Ravi Kumar Tummalapalli, Managing Director for Envirotainer (India) is leveraging his 25 years of unrivalled experience in supply & logistics industry to build an agile and scalable cold chain for the pharmaceutical sector characterised by innovative approaches, intelligent infra -structure, and collaborative practices aiming at delivering life-changing medicines to patients when they need them the most.

Over the years, Ravi has worked with reputed global organizations like Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Intas Pharma -ceuticals and TEVA to name a few. This exposure helped him to understand the pharmaceutical sector in depth and improve its processes and meet its business objectives.

In the last three years, he has been the Managing Director of Envirotainer (India), and was instrumental in setting up the India subsidiary for va-Q-tec (now merged with Envirotainer), a global leader in providing high quality of advanced passive temperature control packaging systems and bringing them closer to the Indian pharma industry. Now with the combined entity, Envirotainer has the largest Active and advance Passive temperature control packaging systems, catering to all the Life stages in the Pharmaceutical product development.
As an industry leader, Ravi is embracing technology, prioritizing sustainability, and putting people, patients, and employees alike at the heart of every decision. He has been a thought leader, sharing and educating his learnings to the industry peers. He has also representing few non-profit organizations as an advisor. Let’s hear it from him!

Share with us the valuable experiences you acquired from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) in your early ages, that you find helpful today.

It was a great privilege getting an admission to one of the most reputed Engineering universities during the 90’s. We had extremely beneficial exposure to not only the theory but also the practical nuances of the industry. Apart from the technical subjects, we also had extensive exposure to how the industry works and how we can contribute to the corporate world when we start working.

The interaction with the industry and the visiting faculty became very advantageous for us and gave us the perspective of the outside world and the confidence to face the same. Such approaches helped us massively in terms of shaping our careers.

Tell us about your leadership approach.

In today’s competitive environ - ment, managers are often expected to wear different hats in different situations. While we need to ensure that the company objectives are achieved, we ought to be very collaborative with the team members so that they never lack the motivation to give their 100 percent in what they do. As a team leader, I guide them in the right direction and counsel them so that they are owning and willing to stay with the organization for a longer period of time.

Tell us about some of your greatest career achieve - ments.

I have been consistent in my approach to adopt the organization’s culture and deliver on the expectations year-on-year, through dedicated efforts and teamwork. Raised through the ranks, I have always kept the customer in focus, overcome operational challenges, and identified cost and service improvements through project management skills. I have been adept at understanding company’s, devising strategies, and translating them into exe
- cutable next steps.

Project leader for setting up Global distribution center, Greenfield site for manu - facturing, I have a reputation of duly meeting all requirements for organization setup, processes for regulatory & compliance. Over the years, I have acquired crossfunctional working relation- ships with internal & external stakeholders in a Joint Venture environment. In all every assignment I have taken up, had a purpose and I tried to fulfil that one at a time.

What is your future destination?

Being in the pharmaceuticals supply chain industry for over two decades, I have handled varied national and regional roles. At present, this particular role gives me a purpose wherein I can establish the organization as a strong temperature control packaging provider in the Indian industry.

The future of pharmaceutical supply chains is bright, dynamic and full of possi -bility, and I am all set to grow the business beyond our boundaries. Pharmaceuticals is a very noble industry where every effort which we put impacts a patients life. I would like to continue my contributions in the industry and try to pass on the knowledge to the peers and young who are stepping into.

Having a Bachelor's of Technology (Civil Engineering), JNTU, Hyderabad, a Master's of Planning (Transport Planning), School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi, and an MBA(International Trade), CSM Institute of Graduate Studies, Canada, Ravi has over 25 years of contributions in diverse industry segments (Pharmaceuticals/OTC /Retail/3PL) and holds a track record in integrating highly matrix organizations, cutting across functional silos. He is also a member of multiple industry consortiums and groups contributing to the policy making.
