CEO

In today’s rapidly evolving digital economy, technology leaders - especially CEOs play a defining role in shaping how organizations innovate, adapt, and grow. Beyond driving business performance, they are responsible for navigating disruption, building resilient teams, and preparing enterprises for the future.

The most impactful tech CEOs are not only visionaries in emerging technologies such as AI, cloud, and cybersecurity, but also strong people leaders who understand the value of adaptability, communication, and persistence. Among such leaders is Umar Ali Shaikh, CEO of Atos Solutions and Systems Pvt. Ltd., whose professional journey spans more than three decades across diverse industries cultures and geographies.

His career is a reflection of resilience, continuous learning, and people-centric leadership. Like every accomplished leader, persistence remained his defining strength. He believes that consistency, determination, and the willingness to keep moving forward eventually outweigh failures and challenges. These experiences collectively define not only his professional success but also the leadership philosophy he brings to Atos India today.

How do you decide where to invest across applications, cloud, infrastructure, and cybersecurity?

We prioritize investments by closely studying future market demand and customer expectations. We regularly engage with CIOs, CXOs, and industry leaders to understand their business priorities and technology challenges. We also work closely with our partner ecosystem to gain insights into upcoming trends.

For instance, when we saw growing demand for AI and cybersecurity talent, we expanded our existing training ecosystem beyond SAP certifications into these emerging areas. I believe successful investment decisions come from combining market foresight with organizational strengths and preparing proactively for long-term industry trans - formation.

How is Atos India National Business strengthening its position in emerging technologies and digital transformation?

While Atos is a global organization, operating business in 54 countries, we ensure that Atos India National Business operates with the agility and energy of a startup.

We remain highly customer-focused and responsive.
Secondly, I strongly believe that technology alone does not create lasting partnerships; people do. Our teams combine technical expertise with integrity, trust, and strong interpersonal values.

Lastly, we remain realistic in our commitments. We focus on delivering what we commit, and whenever possible, exceeding expectations through genuine customer engagement and a co-innovation approach.

What global experiences have shaped your approach to growing business in India?

Working across India, APAC, the Middle East, and the UK taught me that every geography has its own business culture and communication style. Some regions are highly formal and transactional while others value relation -ship-building and informal engagement.

What I admire most about India is its balance between professionalism and human connection. In India, business relationships are built not only through performance but also through trust and personal rapport. This creates stronger long-term partnerships.

I Believe The Future Belongs To Intelligent Digital Eco- systems Driven By AI, Cyber security, Cloud, And Automation

My international experience also taught me the importance of adaptability. Leadership styles and customer engagement approaches must evolve according to local cultural expectations.

What role does CSR play at Atos India’s National Business, and how do you inspire employee parti- cipation?

For us, CSR is not treated as merely a compliance activity but as a meaningful social responsibility. Our initiatives focus on areas such as women empowerment, sustain ability, upliftment of under privileged communities, and support for socially marginalized groups.

We are constantly involved in uplifting human and social life. I encourage employee partici- pation by ensuring that CSR activities create visible human impact. When employees personally witness how their contributions improve lives, participation becomes natural and emotionally driven rather than mandatory. Our goal is to continue to make social responsibility an integral part of our organizational culture.

How would you define your leadership philosophy?

My leadership philosophy is built around realism, accountability, empathy, and empowerment. I believe leaders must remain authentic, transparent, and grounded in their approach.

Consistency in communication and delivery is extremely important. I also strongly believe that great organizations are ultimately built by great people.
While skills can always be upgraded, qualities such as ownership, willingness, and intent must come from within. I focus on empowering teams rather than controlling them, encouraging independent thinking and collaboration while ensuring alignment with organizational goals. For me, leadership is about building trust, enabling growth and creating an environment where people can perform at their best.

What future vision are you working toward for Atos India’s National Business?

I believe the future belongs to intelligent digital ecosystems driven by AI, cybersecurity, cloud, and automation. However, technology alone will not define successful organizations. Com- panies that combine innovation with trust, agility, and strong human values will lead the next phase of growth.

Atos India is focused on becoming a highly agile, customer-centric, and innovation-led organization that continuously evolves alongside emerging technologies. Personally, my vision is centered on building AI-enabled sustainable growth, empowering people, and creating long-term value for customers. We want our India business to be recognized not just for techno-logical capabilities, but also for authenticity, reliability, and meaningful partnerships.

What advice would you offer to aspiring leaders entering the technology industry?

My first advice is to never stop learning and adapting because technology never stops evolving and neither do we. Leaders who remain curious and open to change will always stay relevant. Second, resilience is extremely important.

Every successful career includes failures, uncertainty, and setbacks, but persistence ultimately defines success. Third, aspiring leaders should focus equally on technical expertise and people skills. Technology may create opportunities, but communi- cation, trust, and relationships build lasting success.

Finally, I strongly believe in the importance of intent and ownership. Skills can always be developed, but attitude, commitment, and willingness to contribute are what truly differentiate exceptional leaders from the rest.
