Today, Merusri Developers stands out with its focus on exclusive villa projects, row houses, and plot developments, catering to the needs of those seeking spacious and luxurious living. Below is an excerpt from our recent exclusive interview with Venkateswara, who talks about his academic and entrepreneurial journey, challenges and much more.
Tell us about your shift from a corporate life to an entrepreneurial one.
During the early stages of my corporate career, I was actively investing in Bengaluru’s real estate market. I noticed that there is a scarcity of good real estate. Hence, in order to fill these gaps, I started a real estate company that can address every evolving need of today’s customers. It was a very tough decision to leave a prosperous career in one of the biggest MNCs and start from scratch in an unknown territory with unforeseen challenges. However, as the saying goes, if you have strong will power and the ability
to turn challenges into opportunities, then the world is your opportunity, and the same happened. We were one of the pioneers in Devanahalli’s real estate market, bringing in many innovative solutions. Today, Merusri Developers has completed a decade in the real estate industry.
Going back to your academic journey in IIT Madras, who are your role models or mentors from the institute?
I have two of the prominent mentors who have made a strong impact on me.
Janakiram D was my mentor, role model, and guiding force during my IIT days. Time is always short compared to the tasks that you have to accomplish. I have learned how to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, and complete them within the stipulated time. I also learned how to articulate in the right way from him.
Timothy A Gonsalves was also my inspiration. He taught me how to apply the learnings in practical scenarios. Also, I have learned to be humble even when I am successful.
What memory stands out from your experiences at the institute?
I have several memories from my time at the institute. But what stands out the most is when I secured a research grant from IBM for “A Reconfigurable P2P Middleware for Grid Computations” that appeared in proceedings of ‘the 35th International Conference on Parallel Processing (ICPP), Ohio, USA.’
It’s a sure bet that the experiences you had at IIT served you well in your journey. Tell us about those experiences.

I started Merusri Developers with limited capital and was new to this industry as well as my entrepreneurial journey. However, working as a research scientist in my past had already developed my passion for innovating new solutions. This helped me understand modern-day customers' requirements and design the solutions accordingly. Since research is a continuous process that significantly helps overcome failures and explore new paths to reach the goal, I applied the same to my real estate career. This ensured that I didn’t get deterred by failures, instead, I moved ahead by tackling challenges, which helped me build a successful real estate brand in a competitive city like Bengaluru.
What is your vision when it comes to leadership?
Leadership is making your subordinates believe in your dream and making everyone work towards achieving it. We are proud to say that we have successfully built a leadership team in Merusri Developers that has no attrition. It asserts that we are committed towards our goal of making Merusri Developers one of the most successful brands in the real estate industry.
How do you perceive the journey forward?
The real estate market in India is growing at a swift pace. The opportunities are humongous. Going forward, I want to build the Merusri Developers brand further as a synonym for innovation, sustainability and continuous evolution.
