What are the major turning points in your life that led you to success?
One of the key turning points in my journey was attending the Indian Institute of Science. Though I had earned my
engineering degree from NIT Warangal it was at IISc that I trulyfound inspiration, delving into fascinating AI challenges. My work there eventually connected me with MIT professors, leading me to pursue a PhD at MIT. Until that point, I had envisioned an academic path in teaching and research with no intention of entering the business world.
However, an unexpected interview at Goldman changed that. I was drawn to the dynamic environment and the rigorous approach they embraced. This led me to join Goldman, where I spent two decades before transitioning to Fortitude.
How do you continuously seek smarter solutions in a constantly evolving environ-ment?
I have authored and published several well-regarded research papers in the field of reinforcement learning and stochastic approximation, for which I have received many citations as well.
When it comes to problem solving, both business and research are one and the same. The problems you face are often complex and do not have perfect, one-time solutions. Continuously seeking smarter, more effective solutions is at the core of progress.
With my research experience, I always look for better ways to solve challenges, which, in return, has brought me appreciation from my peers. A major driving force behind this mindset is a strong focus on the customer. Recognizing their pain points fuels the motivation to simplify and enhance their experience, ensuring outcomes are not only efficient but genuinely impactful.
Could you tell us about the most valuable lessons you have acquired from MIT?
Beyond the classroom, openness to exploring any topic stood out the most. MIT encouraged me to attend seminars across various disciplines, even those unrelated to my field.
This interdisciplinary approach led me to engage with researchers in medicine, robotics, and genetics, fostering a mindset that allowed me to connect with individuals from vastly different back - grounds. Another crucial lesson was intellectual honesty. When tackling complex problems, it is easy to become overly confident and feel no need to explain one's work.

Many of them had also been at Goldman, so when I joined, despite it being a completely different environment from MIT, it felt surprisingly familiar. During my research, my network helped me explore topics beyond my immediate field, stay connected, and remain open to new opportunities.

To stay aligned with industry developments, I dedicate time to continuous learning, primarily through reading online content from reputable sources covering both technology and business. My interest lies particularly in quantitative analysis, so I focus on emerging ideas in that domain. I also value peer interactions, whether it is exchanging views with colleagues at other banks or discussing current trends, which helps broaden my perspective. This habit of consistently engaging with new knowledge ensures I remain adaptable and ready to capitalize on emerging opportunities as they come.
