Air India, under the ownership of Tata Group, along with Tata Advanced Systems, plans to invest 23 billion rupees ($277.2 million) in the state of Karnataka, as announced by the state government. The investment will be allocated towards establishing maintenance, repair, and overhaul facilities for aircraft at Bengaluru airport by Air India, while Tata Advanced Systems will focus on establishing manufacturing and research & development units within the state.

The investment is expected to create approximately 1,600 direct job opportunities and over 25,000 indirect employment opportunities within the state, according to the statement. Tata Advanced Systems specializes in producing cargo and bulk cargo doors for Airbus' A320neo aircraft family, while Air India currently holds the second-largest market share among domestic airlines in India as of January 31st.

The investment follows Tata Technologies' commitment to invest 150 billion rupees in Telangana, as part of Tata Group's dedication to expanding its presence in the state. Additionally, Tata Sons chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran revealed last month that the conglomerate is nearing an announcement regarding plans to construct a semiconductor fabrication plant in Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In January, Indian states have secured investment commitments from companies and conglomerates like Maruti Suzuki and the Adani Group during business gatherings such as the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit and the World Economic Forum.
