
ArcelorMittal Starts Providing Clean Energy to AMNS India in Gujarat

With its 1-gigawatt (GW) solar and wind project in Andhra Pradesh, the multinational steel and mining conglomerate ArcelorMittal has begun providing clean energy to AMNS India in Gujarat.
According to ArcelorMittal, its fully-owned AM Green Energy is responsible for the development, construction, and commissioning of the $0.7 billion project.
The business stated that its "largest renewable energy venture...located in Andhra Pradesh has recently started providing clean electricity to AMNS India" .
According to projections, the initiative will cut AMNS India's carbon emissions by 1.5 million tonnes annually, helping the steel manufacturer meet its goal of a 20 percent reduction in the CO2 intensity of the steel it produces by 2030 (compared to a baseline set in 2021).
Investing in renewable energy generation is an exciting new business sector for ArcelorMittal, according to CEO Aditya Mittal. It promotes decarbonization goals and offers steelmaking operations affordable sustainable energy security.
The project is the first significant renewable energy project the company has put into service.
One of the fastest projects of this size delivered in India, the ambitious and sizable project was finished safely and effectively in about 18 months, and AM/NS India is already receiving clean electricity, he said.
ArcelorMittal has been working on a number of renewable energy initiatives, this one among them. The company is currently working on 2.3 GW of renewable energy projects in Argentina, Brazil, and India.
Additionally, it is a component of ArcelorMittal's strategic expansion initiatives, which, when finished by the end of 2027, should result in an additional $1.9 billion in EBITDA annually, according to Mittal.

The solar site is 2,400 acres in size, which is more than 1,700 football fields the size of FIFA, and the wind site is 700 acres in size. Approximately 1.5 million solar panels and 91 wind turbines, now fully commissioned and operating at nameplate capacity, will produce 2.5 billion kWh of electricity yearly, enough to power almost 10 million Indian homes.
