Only hydrogenated oil manufacturing was involved when Azim Premji acquired Western Indian Vegetable Products Ltd. Later, Premji's company was expanded to include consumer goods with oil bases,such as soaps, shampoos, and baking fats.

Taking Wipro to Global Markets
Premji saw a surge in technology and looked into the potential of the IT sector; thus, he decided to create an Infotech branch within the company. By the late 1970s, the company had applied for a license to design, produce, and sell minicomputers. The business was then renamed Wipro Limited, which signaled a significant change in the company's course. Born into a middle-class family on 24 July 1945, Azim Premji took over his father’s company, Western India Vegetable Products Ltd, after his father’s sudden death and dropped out of his engineering studies at Stanford. Despite his young age, Premji showed resilience and vision. He expanded the company significantly, adding hydraulic cylinders, soaps, and lighting products. In 1977, the company was renamed Wipro and began its rise in the IT industry. The business increased its presence abroad and broadened the range of services it offered, including business process outsourcing, IT consulting, and software development. Premji's leadership

The 1,500 employees of the Foundation are dispersed among 250 sites. The Foundation manages 270 Teacher Learning Centers. The Foundation is currently utilizing its strong institutional presence to begin working on livelihoods and health.
