Lumina CloudInfra, a data centre platform owned and managed by Blackstone's Real Estate and Tactical Opportunities funds, intends to invest more than $300 million, or around Rs 2,500 crore, in the development of a hyperscale data centre campus in Navi Mumbai's Airoli neighbourhood.

This would be Lumina CloudInfra's first data centre investment in India, and it is likely to fuel the US-based institutional investor's attempts to expand its data centre footprint in Asia.

The Airoli data centre, with a critical IT load capacity of more than 60 MW, will be built in two phases on a 6.3-acre tract of land. The first phase of construction is planned to begin soon and be finished by 2025.

"India is a high-growth market, with data centre demand expected to rise significantly as a result of rapidly increasing data consumption, economic digitization, the launch of 5G, and data localization trends." "Lumina CloudInfra's first data centre is a significant milestone for Lumina and India's digital journey," said Anil Reddy, Global Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Lumina CloudInfra.

The company is also planning to open a second data centre in Navi Mumbai's Mahape neighbourhood.

"In India, which is a hub for many leading technology and information technology service companies, there is tremendous demand for data centres." "We are bringing an innovative mission-critical data infrastructure to India and supporting the country's digital transformation with our business plan," said Sujeet Deshpande, CEO & Co-Founder, Lumina India.
