BrowerStack Co-Founders Donate Rs.100 Crore to IIT Bombay

In yet another act of altruism, BrowserStack co-founders Nakul Aggarwal and Ritesh Arora have pledged to donate Rs 100 crore to their alma mater, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, to improve campus infrastructure, especially with regard to student housing.
The two co-founders of BrowserStack, a cloud-based platform for testing websites and mobile apps, received their BTech degrees in computer science engineering from IIT Bombay in 2006.
The rebuilding of Hostel 6, where they both lived at IIT Bombay, and Project Evergreen, a broad effort to modernize hostels, will be the two main projects funded by their donation.
Their contribution is one of the biggest ever made to support student living.
Ritesh Arora, CEO of BrowserStack, said, “IIT Bombay shaped our vision and gave us the foundation to build BrowserStack into a global tech leader. Through this contribution, we are not just rebuilding hostels, we are investing in environments where the next generation of tech leaders can collaborate, ideate, and push boundaries. Quality infrastructure plays a crucial role in nurturing well-rounded engineers who can solve tomorrow’s complex challenges.”
An IIT Bombay alumnus pair, Jitendra Mohan (civil engineering, 1995) and Swapna Samant (electrical engineering, 1994), committed $11 million to their alma institution in January 2025 to support projects meant to uphold the school's tradition of innovation and excellence in teaching.
Alumnus who wished to remain anonymous donated $18.6 million (about Rs 153 crore) to IIT Bombay in August 2023.
Nandan Nilekani, a co-founder and chairman of Infosys Ltd. and the founding chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), is an alumnus of IIT Bombay and donated Rs 315 crore ($38.5 million) to the university in June 2023.
IIT Bombay states that the goal of the Hostel 6 rehabilitation project is to create a contemporary, comfortable living area with modern conveniences that enhance academic performance and foster student well-being. This project is a component of IIT Bombay's broader plan to improve the living and educational experience of its 14,000 students by renovating its dorms.
Nakul Aggarwal, CTO and co-founder of BrowserStack, said, “The engineering talent coming out of IIT Bombay has been transforming the global tech landscape for decades. My journey from Hostel 6 to building a global tech company showed me how powerful the right environment is for nurturing innovation."
"This contribution is personal for us—we are simply giving back to the institution that showed us what is possible when talent meets opportunity,” adds Nakul.
