Gujarat Reveals New EV policy; State to Provide Subsidy Support of Rs 870 cr Over Four Years

EVpolicyGujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani Today announced a new Electric Vehicle (EV) policy in the state. He said that the electric vehicle buyers will now get subsidies of Rs 10,000 per kWh on purchase. Based on the new policy, the state will be providing subsidy support of Rs 870 crore over four years.

Gujarat will provide up to Rs 20,000 subsidy on an electric two-wheeler. Electric three-wheelers will be subsidized by up to Rs 50,000. 1.5 lakh subsidy will be given on electric four-wheelers. Subsidies will be directly transferred to the beneficiary via DBT.

With this policy, all-electric vehicles will be exempted from the registration fee. Furthermore, 278 charging stations have been approved for Gujarat under the FAME scheme. The state will support the installation of 250 additional charging stations and provide 25 percent capital subsidy with a limit of Rs 10 lakh for charging stations.

The event also marked the virtual signing of 10 MoUs between the department of climate change and institutes such as IITs, IIMs, BISAG, Anand Agricultural University and other departments of the government such as GSRTC, Gujarat Gas, GUJCOST,

GLPC, the chief town planner, GSTBM and Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat. A compendium titled, “Building a Climate Resilient Gujarat: A Decade of and A Road Map for the Future” was also e-released by the CM. The collection is a compilation of various actions of the state government in addressing issues related to climate change, including promotion of renewable sources of energy like solar and wind energy.

Officials said Gujarat is the leader in the residential solar rooftop power generation scheme, which has at a subsidized cost, installed solar rooftops at over 1.38 lakh houses in the state with an aggregate capacity of 513MW.
