NTT All Set to Invest $2 Billion in Indian Data Center Business

Global innovator, NTT Data announces its plan to invest around $2 billion over the next four years. This investment is carried out with the intension to expand its data center business in India.

Commenting on the investment, Masaaki Moribayashi, Senior Executive Vice President - services of NTT says, “India has been a key market for NTT’s data center portfolio. That’s why we continue to expand our portfolio of state-of-the-art data centers in new and existing markets that complement our global geographic footprint and support our clients as their demand increases for reliable, robust cloud services, cloud communications, digital entertainment, and new technologies such as artificial intelligence.”

The company's Global Data Center division has announced the launch of a new data center in Mumbai and is expecting to expand its capacity across the country by 30 percent. However, the Mumbai 7 Data Center has a co-location space of 375,000 square feet and it is expected to offer 5,000 racks and more than 30 MW of load capacity.

Furthermore, NTT would be investing the funds in expanding its data-centered and networks as well as initiate new solar power projects in India. Alongside this, the company has also launched its first 50 MW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) power plant collaborating with Tata Power in Solapur, Maharastra. Thus, the plant is striving to meet 83 percent of the electricity needed by the Mumbai data center and is looking forward to generating 50 MW more in the future.

The Mumbai 7 Data Center is expected to be the third hyperscale data centre in the Chandivali campus and is well connected by fiber from all four sides.

Hence, NTT’s Mumbai hub of data centers would make the Chandivali campus as India’s first and largest operational hyperscale Data Center Park, which may total over 1,000,000 sq ft, 13,000 racks, and 100 MW of load capacity.

Sharad Sanghi, CEO, Global Data Centers and Cloud Infrastructure of NTT, India states, “We are extremely pleased to increase our data center footprint in Mumbai during this pandemic to enable our clients to derive greater value while delivering business outcomes. He further adds, "Our data center facilities are poised to become the very heart of India’s IT Infrastructure needs, providing the right platform with end-to-end ICT solutions, combining hosted infrastructure, network, security and managed services – to balance the critical IT load of businesses.”
