The US delegation is set to travel to India on August 25 for the upcoming round of talks regarding the suggested bilateral trade accord between the two nations. Both parties are still involved in a temporary trade agreement as the August 1 deadline draws near.  August 1 signifies the conclusion of the tariff suspension period implemented by US President Donald Trump on numerous countries, including India (26 percent).

The US delegation is coming for the sixth round of discussions. Last week in Washington, teams from India and the US completed the fifth round of discussions for the agreement.

India's lead negotiator and special secretary in the Commerce Department, Rajesh Agrawal, along with Brendan Lynch, the Assistant US Trade Representative for South and Central Asia, conducted the discussions.

These talks are important as both sides seek to conclude a temporary trade deal before August 1.

On April 2 of this year, Trump declared significant reciprocal tariffs. The enforcement of elevated tariffs was promptly halted for 90 days until July 9 and subsequently extended until August 1, while the United States is engaging in trade negotiations with multiple nations.

India has strengthened its stance regarding the US request for tariff reductions on agricultural and dairy items. New Delhi has yet to provide any duty reductions to any of its trading partners in a free trade agreement concerning the dairy sector.

Some farmers' groups have requested that the government exclude any agricultural matters from the trade agreement.

India is requesting the elimination of this extra tariff (26 percent). It is also examining the reduction of tariffs on steel and aluminium (50 percent) and the automotive industry (25 percent). These concerns play a crucial role in the discussions for the trade agreement.
