Sidharth Misra, DirectorLeaders in the mining sector must prioritize the long term viability of the mining company if the industry and its stakeholders are to thrive in the future. In addition to these benefits, sustainable business practices help organizations meet regulatory requirements safeguard the environment foster social responsibility safeguard the company's financial health. In light of this, Ghanashyam Misra & Sons Director Sidharth Misra shares the view that the company's management should work to ensure the continued viability of the mining company's operations.

In addition, Sidharth Misra has ventured into the realm of iron ore refinement and production capacity expansion to optimize the firm's use of resources while reducing waste. The family firm, Ghanashyam Misra & Sons, has become one of the most successful producers of highquality ore as a direct consequence of how Sidharth approaches his role as a leader.

Below is an excerpt of Sidharth Misra’s exclusive interaction with CEO Insights magazine.

As the new-age leader, what is the motivation that fuels your daily routines?
Each day, I'm inspired to do my best by the knowledge that everyone involved is contributing to the company's success. Similarly, I don't want to let them down, therefore I always strive to do my best in my specific responsibilities. To ensure that I am continuously doing my best to advance this, I live in constant concern about letting down the individuals who have put in such significant work so far. For me, that's a huge driving factor.
How would you define Ghanashyam Misra & Sons as an organization and its position in the market? What is the unique proposition that your organization offers to clients?
If I were, to sum up, Ghanashyam Misra & Sons in a few words, I would say that we are resilient, innovation hungry, and inclusive growth with sustainability-oriented. We've learned the value of the aforementioned factors via experience; as a result, we make an effort to maintain a focus on them. In addition to our other value propositions, GMS stands out by maintaining constant, high-quality control over all of our cutting-edge materials.

A decision's success or failure is heavily dependent on how it affects the individuals who are either directly or indirectly connected to the company

Could you tell us about your leadership approach and the guidelines or methodologies you follow to lead your team?
My fundamental leadership philosophy is to crystallize the company's goal before making it a static target. Once the goal and the means to attain it are clear, including the team and working together to reach the goal can only result in mutual advancement and a sense of accomplishment for all members of the group. Thus, without shared goals among the company’s visionaries, there is limited hope for the business to expand and thrive under any kind of meaningful leadership. Moreover, we need to have a firm schedule that we stick to reach our goal, as well as to check in on our progress often to make adjustments as needed.

In addition, our approach prioritizes people above things. A decision's success or failure is heavily dependent on how it affects the individuals who are either directly or indirectly connected to the company. Therefore, acting as a shield to protect their interests will
help to honor not just the organization's founders but also the business itself. We employ about a thousand people in the mining region around the area because of the volume of business we do with the local community. For this reason, we have a special place in our hearts for all of these individuals and must treat them with the utmost respect and integrity; without them, there can be no expansion. Thus, leaders are prone to put their followers first.

In light of your strong experience within the industry, what advice would you give to budding industry leaders?
In my opinion, India is ripe with potential in a wide variety of industries, not simply the mining and steel. In light of this, it can be said that the population as a whole in the modern day is far more educated and knowledge able than it was in the past. Therefore, this expands our scope and allows us to embrace a broader range of mindsets in our pursuit of innovation and entrepreneurship. Consequently, I would suggest that individuals should actively seek out such opportunities and that you should not settle for less than your best effort in pursuit of them. Always keep the big picture in mind, and aim for progress that benefits everyone, not just yourself, if you want to succeed.
