Venkata Mahesh Koya

Managing Director

Charles Darwin once said, “The love for all living creatures is the most noble attribute of man”. This sentiment is evident in the countless animal lovers around the world who care deeply for their pets, domestic, and farm animals, often with equal devotion they show to their family.

They ensure their animals are well-fed, clean, vaccinated, and receive prompt care in emergencies. Enabling this level of care, however, requires access to high-quality animal healthcare products from trusted companies that are truly dedicated to advancing animal well-being.

While many companies aim to meet this high standard, hardly anyone matches the comprehensive excellence of Sarvani Labs and the passion of its leader, Venkata Mahesh Koya (Managing Director). This passion can be traced back to his early life, being born and raised in a farmer's family around farm animals and Venkata establishing a good rapport with them.

Venkata holds an M. Tech in Advanced Manufacturing Systems from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Business Management Certi- fication from Harvard, and a Project Management degree from UC San Diego, and brings over 15 years of industry experience.

As the Managing Director of Sarvani Labs, a GMP and ISO certified animal healthcare products company, he is dedicated to advancing animal health through a steadfast commitment to Productivity, Quality, Reliability, Safety, and Timely Delivery (PQRST), the guiding principles of manufacturing excellence. Venkata joins us for an exclusive conversation, offering insights into his entrepreneurial journey and vision for the future.

What has been the guiding principle behind your success?

It all stems from my passion. I am the son of a farmer, and my childhood was deeply intertwined with farm life. Growing up, our home was filled with more than 40 farm animals.

It was a large family, and the calves would often come to us, forming a natural bond. We shared meals, when training them to become oxen, we would eat together from the same bowl.
That upbringing shaped me in profound ways, making my connection with animals second nature. However, business success isn’t achieved overnight, it requires dedication, strategic planning, and a strong team. While timing plays a role, having a clear vision is equally important. Breaking large goals into smaller, achievable milestones makes progress smoother. Celebrating each win along the way fuels momentum, ensuring steady growth.

My career began in the U.S. with a private defense organization engaged with nuclear technology and an FDA product line. As a program manager, I led several major projects. Returning to India in 2023, I strengthened our organization, which was established in 2016. We completed a Greenfield project in 16 months, expanding operations to eight countries globally. Our guiding principle is quality, productivity and consistency, irrespective of market or customer profile.

Could you illustrate faculty accessibility from your time at JNTU?

Our batch was the second in MVGR Viziayanagaram, and even after 23 years, I still remember our faculty. Our principal, KLP Raju Garu, taught machine design and was always accessible, whether during school hours or beyond. We never sought direct solutions, only guidance, and could ask him anything, academic or personal.

Even years later, when I revisited my college, he still remembered me in full detail, showing the lasting impact of our time there. The campus itself fostered open discussions beyond classroom subjects, where we explored how to be responsible citizens, achieve our goals, and understand the morals that shape us. Those casual yet meaningful conversations truly shaped our perspectives.

How has your alumni network helped you with your journey till now?

As a student, our batch was only the second, so there wasn’t a chapter yet, and we had direct access to our seniors. A few years later, the chapter was established, and my classmate became the head of the alumni community at our location. Whenever they needed assistance, they would reach out to us, and whenever I needed anything, I simply pinged them.

How do you keep yourself up to date with the ongoing industry trends?

The pharmaceutical industry hosts gatherings like Convention
on Pharmaceutical Ingredients (CPHI) and other major exhibitions where professionals from across the world come together. We regularly attended the CPHI Delhi, World wide and China, events that attract global visitors, including industry peers, customers, and suppliers. These exhibitions serve as vital collaboration hubs for organizations in our sector.

At these events, sales representatives primarily engage with potential clients, but technical experts also attend to explore new product developments. Our technical team participates in discussions where clients present specific requirements, such as modifying a product’s composition or eliminating certain factors in a next-generation solution, which often lead to research and development initiatives. Post-summit, follow-up calls facilitate further collaboration, leading to focused R&D efforts based on the insights gathered.

What is the future road map you have envisioned? Also, what would be your advice to the upcoming leaders?

At present, we have one operational vertical focused on delivery, and we plan to introduce a few more verticals by the end of 2027, which we will be announcing in the future. While our focus remains primarily on veterinary solutions, we are also exploring select offerings for human applications. The fundamental principle in any market is supply and demand. The first crucial step is to identify the gaps.

It’s essential to follow basic market guidelines and assess products or services that are viable now and in the future through thorough evaluation and proper documentation. My advice to emerging leaders and entrepreneurs is that the ability to filter and refine ideas is vital. While many concepts may seem promising, continuous market assessment ensures they align with current and future trends.
