Dr. Sumina Reddy: Renowned For Promising Personalized, Affordable & Ethical Mother And ChildCare

Dr. Sumina Reddy, Fertility Consultant & Laparoscopic Surgeon, Mira Fertility, 0

Because of today’s fast-paced life, work stress, pollution, the advanced age of marriage and childbearing have heavily impacted the fertility rate in society. With more couples looking for fertility care, the Indian IVF service market has been on a firm growth trajectory with an improved landscape and revolutionary procedures. However, the growth also comes with a costly price tag that is unaffordable for the majority of the population. Dr. Sumina Reddy, Fertility Consultant & Laparoscopic Surgeon, Mira Fertility has been providing affordable child and mothercare facilities at her institution, Mira Fertility. A specialty wing of Kiran Hospitals Mira Fertility provides personalized fertility care as well as comprehensive women's care to its clients.

In an exclusive interview with CEO Insights, Dr. Sumina has shared her motivation behind venturing into fertility healthcare service, the unique services offered by Mira Fertility and much more:

Shed some light on your professional background & experiences. What inspired you to start your professional journey in fertility and laparoscopy?
Coming from a family of doctors, I have grown up with discussions about patients, their problems, and surgeries, which are very common in our household. Being an ambitious person, I want to learn as much as I can in my life. After becoming a gynecologist like my mother, I was greatly fascinated by the art of minimally invasive surgery and the science of artificial reproductive technology. The ability to relieve the pain and suffering of women without inflicting much pain on them, as well as the happiness that the whole family experiences on receiving a precious new life are the motivations sufficient to keep me working and upgrading myself in this field.

Define Mira Fertility as a healthcare institution and the values it possesses. What are the unique services provided by the institution that makes it stand out from the rest in the market?
Mira fertility is my dream which was turned into reality because of the constant support of many wonderful people in my life such as my parents, in-laws, husband and brother. The institution is a specialty wing of Kiran Hospitals a 20-year-old institution providing affordable and ethical mother & child care. Mira Fertility is established with the positive intent of providing advanced, ethical, transparent and affordable fertility care to society.

Fertility is a very personal and sensitive dimension of one’s life. Today’s fast paced life, work stress, pollution the advanced age of marriage and child bearing have greatly increased the infertility issues in society. Every couple suffering from sub-fertility has its own set of challenges and the 'one size fits all' mantra will not work in fertility. Mira Fertility provides personalized fertility care with attention given to the physical, emotional and financial needs of the couple. We strongly believe that being able to be a mother is a basic emotional necessity for every woman and good fertility care should be affordable to all.

How has been your response to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic? How would you describe your role in tackling those challenges?
The pandemic posed a very novel challenge to the entire healthcare fraternity and society at large. While the
majority of the healthcare force was tending to covid-affected population, the unaffected pregnant and fertility care took a back seat. While we were actively involved in supporting the doctors, healthcare personnel and families affected by covid, we did not let the non-covid emergencies get neglected. I think Covid has taught us that while dealing with a pandemic, rather than putting on individual effort the entire society has to come together for survival and sustenance.

We strongly believe that being able to be a mother is a basic emotional necessity for every woman and good fertility care should be affordable to all

In your professional journey so far, what are the milestones that gave you utmost satisfaction both as an individual and as a healthcare industry leader?
Iam blessed to be in a field that gives immense satisfaction. Every woman that I have treated, every happy couple and every healthy baby are a source of satisfaction and contentment. I strongly believe in women's empowerment and also believe that quality

education and healthcare are basic human rights that should be within the reach of every person. So, our urban and rural free health camps where we provide free health services are really important to me. We are also associated with Sarvodaya Trust to provide social outreach in the form of women empowerment cottage industry, library initiatives and sports complexes in the rural schools.

Going forward, what are the changes in healthcare trends that you anticipate and what are the opportunities that you foresee to serve people better as a leader?
The future belongs to technology with artificial intelligence, robotics, telemedicine and wearable healthcare devices are all going to revolutionize the present healthcare delivery. As the age of child-bearing is going to be pushed higher, the requirement for artificial reproduction is going to increase. Also, India could become the most sought after destination for fertility and healthcare thanks to its highly skilled and affordable healthcare system.
