The economic partnership between India and Denmark has steadily grown over the past decade. In the past five years, the trade corridor witnessed a remarkable upswing, with bilateral trade in goods and services escalating by 78 percent over five years, from $2.8 billion in 2016 to an impressive $5 billion in 2021. According to Denmark Statistics, this upward trajectory continued as the trade volume surged from $3.6 billion in 2020 to approximately $5 billion the following year. A breakdown of these figures reveals a robust increase in Indian exports, which climbed from $1.8 billion in 2020 to $2
billion in 2021. Concurrently, imports from Denmark experienced a significant rise, reaching around $3 billion in 2021, up from $1.8 billion the previous year. As per Denmark Statistics, the total volume of bilateral trade in goods and services between India and Denmark is around $ 5,3 billion in 2023 compared to around $ 6.64 billion in 2022, underscoring the dynamic and growing economic ties between the two nations.

The opportunities are huge in Denmark’s business realm, especially in the biopharmaceutical industry. The Danish pharmaceutical industry kept Denmark from falling into a recession last year. More investments are anticipated toward increasing production and distribution capabilities, particularly within the pharmaceutical sector, stimulating economic growth. Consequently, the projection for real GDP growth stands at an increase of 0.9 percent for 2024 and 1.6 percent for 2025. Notably, the estimate for 2024 reflects a downward adjustment from previous forecasts, whereas the outlook for 2025 has been maintained at the same level.
