Loyola College, Chennai—established in 1925 by French Jesuit priest Francis Bertram—stands as an enduring beacon of progressive education and academic excellence in the Indian higher education landscape. Over the past hundred years, the college has built its reputation not just on rigorous academics but also on its unwavering commitment to social inclusion, innovation, and leadership. The appointment of Dr. N. Jency, the first transgender woman to become Assistant Professor in Tamil Nadu, marks Loyola’s proactive stance toward equality and representation, a fact that resonated at the highest levels of government when Chief Minister M.K. Stalin personally congratulated her and acknowledged her achievements as symbols of social advancement.
Loyola balances its progressive initiatives with a solid academic foundation. The college now offers more than 24 undergraduate and 21 postgraduate programs, adapting its curriculum to meet contemporary needs—such as new courses in data science, digital journalism, multimedia, and 3D animation. Its autonomy since 1978 has allowed it to pioneer path-breaking programs including visual communication and interdisciplinary studies, positioning Loyola as a model for innovation and inclusion in academia.

Recent years have brought national and international acclaim, especially with faculty accolades: Andhra Loyola College, a sister institution, achieved global recognition in 2025 when two professors were ranked among the world’s top 2 percent scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier. The centenary year in 2025 was celebrated worldwide through alumni gatherings, reflecting Loyola’s far-reaching impact on education, leadership, and community service. In this special issue of CEO Insights, we shed light on some of prestigious alumni of the institute. Do let us know your thoughts.
