BITS Continues to Set Benchmarks in Research Prowess

BITS Pilani continues to rise the research-driven innovation prowess of India, responding to pressing social challenges. The recent breakthrough by the MMNE Lab at BITS Pilani Hyderabad — the development of thin, flexible gold electrodes that detect cardiac troponin I (cTnI) and uric acid in saliva — is a case in point about the institute’s commitment to translating laboratory excellence into real-world solutions. Traditionally, cardiac biomarkers like cTnI could only be measured through complex, resource-intensive blood tests in specialized laboratories. This portable, saliva-based diagnostic platform promises to be a game-changer, making early detection of heart attacks and related ailments accessible even in remote, infrastructure limited regions.
In truth, such advances are no coincidence in BITS; they are the product of a research culture anchored in interdisciplinary collaboration, social mission, and continual pursuit of excellence. The ongoing engagement with startups, hospitals, and government bodies—including active negotiations with global and Indian regulatory agencies—underscores the institute’s determination to ensure its technologies reach and benefit the broader community. By pushing for certification from regulatory leaders such as the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), and by planning for international approvals, BITS Pilani demonstrates both ambition and responsibility in scientific citizenship.

This dedication has not gone unnoticed. BITS Pilani’s position among the top 10 Indian institutions in the 2025 CS Rankings, where it holds an esteemed ninth place, is a testament to its growing research strength in the highly competitive sphere of computer science and technology. This special issue of CEO Insights adjoins to this recognition, as we dedicate this yearly special issue to the prestigious alumni of the institute. Do let us know your thoughts.
