Months after the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) filed a complaint with multiple allegations against the Indian food delivery twin unicorns, Zomato and Swiggy, the order to investigate the companies finally came to effect. NRAI, representing over 500,000 restaurants across India, filed the complaint to the Competition Commission of India (CCI) in July last year. In the complaint, NRAI made several allegations against Zomato and Swiggy, including the two companies for allegedly providing priority to some eateries.

But it looks like the equation’s flip side is not as smooth as it once was. The association alleges that the two companies provide discounts after charging ‘exorbitant commissions’ from restaurants. They also allege that Zomato and Swiggy force restaurants to give discounts on their platform by threatening them with visibility on the platform. However, the urban foodies would find it hard to live without the food delivery twins and the attractive discounts on the platform.
